| Inside mirror with autodimming not working ? |

I`m not sure but it seems that my inside mirror dosen`t autodim
I have a HSE with privacy glass but still!
I have tried using a flashlight, but with no luck.
I see that it has 1 "sensors" and somthing that seems to bee an an LED indicator in front!
I seem to remember that when I teste the demo car It had one with an orang or green light!
Please confirm or rebut this!

Pers,
I have been thinking the same thing.
Mine seems to have an LED indicator on it, but its has never illuminated for me.
I also think that mine does not auto dim.
On my previous Range Rover P38, it had the sensors front and rear, and an LED that came on green when it was switched on.
Interestingly there seems to be now switch on the Disco rear view mirror.
Any one else thought the same?

Hi Just had a look at my mirror, I am 99% certain that the LED you are seeing is a LDR "Light Dependant Resistor" it is what dims the mirror, the whole on the on the left looks empty and the there is a LDR on the front of the mirror also which should enable the system, However now that it is mentioned I have never seen mine dim....mmm but i believe the best way to check is with a touch and reverse gear as usually with other vehicle makes if the mirror is dipped and you select reverse gear it should cancel the dipping so you can see.
I will try mine out later on tonite when its dark as it hink it will only be active at night " when the front LDR enables it"

Your neighbours are really gonna wonder what you get up to at night in the back of your car with a torch 
I would guess from what you say about LDR's that the two LEDS in the rev counter are :
1. LED for alarm and engine disable notification - red flasher
2. LRD for the backlighting on the dash LCD's that is supposed to brighten and darken depending on ambient light ??

My dipping mirror works, its quite subtle though, and there are no leds to light up. I don't have privacy glass, but it is noticable that driving at night that the cars behind have much dimmer lights in the main rear view mirror, than they do in the door mirrors. There is no on/off switch, and I think that one of the two small holes contains the LDR that looks out of the rear window for car lights behind.
My old S2 Disco had a manual photochromic mirror. It had a switch labelled "Auto" that when pressed would illuminate a green led. This would make the mirror go darker when a car was behind with its lights on. The feature could be switched off by pressing the button. I never switched it off in 100,000 miles, so I guess LR have saved a couple of quid and wired it full time.

Mine works too, and all I see behind on a dark night is very dark blue lights - an no not the police!!  At first I thought I was going mad, but the mirror darkens quite a bit and does a fantastic job.

I tried flashlighting it last night directly into what looks like the LED,
but isn`t that´s the sensor!
And what u know it dimmed!
So i works, but dosen`t give me an hint with an Green LED (would been nice)

Digging up a really really old thread here...
I was driving home late last night and noticed something a bit rubbish about the design of the sensors on the rear view mirror. When a car is directly behind you, the shadow of the middle rear seat's headrest falls on to the sensors, and it 'undims'.
At first I thought I must be imagining it, so after 30 miles of being dazzled by cars directly behind me, I stopped and folded the middle seat down. Result: blue rear view for most of the rest of the journey.
Anyone else spotted this problem? Do I have 'special' rear seats?

This may explain why there are some pictures around of D3's with different design rear headrests!.

So, er, do you think mine might have been fitted with the wrong ones? Or at least could be retro fitted with different ones to fix the problem?
Who do I speak to about this - do I go back to my dealer, or to LRCS?

I have the same problem, it is especially bad here as most cars seem to have poorly adjusted headlights  ! Is there a way to remove the center headrest at all ?

the D3's with different headrests on row 2 are 5 seaters, so thats not the "fix".

Using advice from another recent topic... Now I've managed to detach it, I've put my middle headrest in the footwell of one of the (stowed) row three seats. When I have people sitting there, I'll probably want the middle head rest back on anyway.

Headrest is out. I can now also see the numpties that try to stop on my rear bumper ! I will see how it goes stowing it under the third row seats (thanks Rob)
