My 2012 D4 has 95k miles and patchy service record. Last serviced at 90k in 2018 (plugs & filters).
Assuming it’s not been done (and I have no record) is now the time to get the cam belt done? I noticed that my coolant had dropped very low. What preventative maintenance might be needed there?
Basically, what should I ask my garage to do now that I’m approaching 10 years & 100k miles?

What were you quoted for the belts and service out of interest?
The belts should have been done at 7 years regardless of mileage so you may be wasting money if they were done at the correct time….. picking mine up today after belts and service at JLR as I still have approved warranty. Painful (but necessary) at 1200 quid. A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

1200 for belts and 250 to replace the water pump, while they’re in there. Painful indeed.
The owner at 7 years (me) neglected to do it 🙄. Have you done any other preventative maintenance? What about chains, tensioners etc.

Fair play… I’m glad we are both being charged the same at least…. I asked about doing the water pump, they said they looked at it and reported it to be perfect so the original is staying put. They did say the D4 water pump is no longer an issue as the D3’s were a weak point, but I really wanted it done like you!
There are no chains (hence the belts every 7 years) and tensioner will be part of the belt service if you are at a main dealer.
Mines under warranty (even though it’s 2014 it’s never left the dealer network thanks to the previous owner).
Whilst in there they found a few old favourites… slight leak from power steering, slight leak from turbo pipe, noisy viscous fan, noisy central locking actuator……..All replaced under warranty.
Preventative…
Bought an IID tool…. Invaluable if you are modding, servicing, tinkering yourself.
Gearbox oil change
Diff/transfer boxes flush
Rear brake disk and pads to keep the epb in good order as it likes to seize/stick on if left to get cruddy.

Are you sure they said water pump? I thought it was oil pump on early D3s that needed replacing. .

I’d suggested the water pump tbh. Is it not a critical maintenance. Happy to spend less for sure.

Hi,
as Dean says i would be considering changing the oil pump even on a D4 as preventative
also
gearbox transfusion
and epb overhaul if not had work already done to it

Ok collected mine after the big service….
No water pump or oil pump required or necessary on a D4. The D3’s were recommended each belt change.
The tensioners came with the belt service.
They found a few other things that would have equated to 1600 quid so thank you warranty for saving the day there. New cooling fan motor, new lock and actuator and new power steering hoses.
Love having it back after 8 days for that lot to get sorted.
The transmission oil was changed around the 70k service and mine had an entire epb rebuild prior to buying…(under warranty again).
It sailed through the mot without advisories so all good there. A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

👏 Doesn’t it always “feel” better, driving after a service. The more spent the better she drives 😆

So true. Was discussing this placebo today at work.
It’s soooo much better after parting with 1300 quid.

Yes and brake fluid and brake flexible hoses, it never ends with a Disco It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
