Underside rust treatment. Looking for recommendations |
|
Hi Folk
Considering doing the underside rust treatment.
Any recommendations for businesses that do this? Based in Oxfordshire but happy to travel as far as say. Bristol…
Thanks

There’s plenty on this subject on the forum, although not sure there are specific recommendations in your area. The advice seems to be it needs a very thorough job ( therefore expensive) to get it done properly. Here’s a thread running in parallel currently. Use the search facility to find more info and more warnings:

Too late, in my opinion. Needs to be done early, probably before first MOT.
There are garages that will happily take your money, but without a reliable guarantee. A cover all approach is likely to make matters worse in the long run.
Keep your underside/ chassis clean and free from mud that will hold moisture against bare metal. Focus any treatment on the few small areas that are a problem. There is no practical cure for rust, only ways to slow down the effects. Chris

If you use any sort of wax based treatment it will need recoating biannually and sometimes more often on hard wearing areas.
I dont think chassis will be an issue until well into their 20th birthday, it is the body that will fail first, the cills being a known weak point.
