Trim Restoration - Polytrol

I know there's quite a few threads on trim restoration with a lot of people claiming Gtechniq C4 to be one of the best solutions. Price wise it's pretty much top of the line so I'm looking at cheaper options other than peanut butter or linseed oil.

I've come across Owatrol Polytrol in a lot of detailing forums and the US Wrangler forum where lots of people seem to swear by it. Does anyone here have any experience with it?

Your best bet for getting trim back to black is a hot paint gun

Thanks for the tip Alex. I've seen a few videos on it and it definitely seems to do the trick pretty well particularly treating it with some form of product afterward.

Slightly nervous accidentally damaging the paint in the process with too much heat. I'm particularly looking at the scuttle panel, would you recommend taking it off to do?

Polytrol is excellent, I've been using it for years without complaint.

Easy to apply, easy to touch up, and lasts really well, especially on non-contact areas.
The heat gun has it's place, but it can irreversibly damage the plastics if you get too close.

Polytrol will do the job without risk, for best results the trick is to lay it on thin rather than loading too much. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the tip PROFSR G Bow down

Do you pretreat/clean with anything particular or is it just a case of giving a proper wash and letting it dry before applying?

You're welcome.

Just wash and dry, follow the instruction about laying the product and you'll have great results. Thumbs Up

The Polytrol Owatrol seems to last quite well, really smartens the motor up as well.

Only bit I find it fails on is the plastic wiper panel, even though said panel is not 5 years old!

There might be residue on the panel? Perhaps from polish or similar? If you are inclined, a rub over with fine wet n' dry sandpaper might improve it. Thumbs Up

Then Polytrol it again!
