Note those side steps offer no protection when off-roading. I bent one up to the point of not being able to open my door when i took it to the first pay n play a week into ownership. Got some prospeed on order - with steps as the oldies in my family would benefit muchly.

Check out my other posts as others here have provided some useful info about treating the chassis prior to fitting them. The other takeaway for me is the realisation that no matter which steps you fit, they aren't fit and forget. Check annually and be prepared to remove and treat any rust as required.

Replacement bolts?

Hi, sorry for the slight thread hijack but can anyone point me in the right direction for getting a set of fixing bolts/nuts for the side steps?
I oredered a (non-OEM) set off ebay and they arrived with damaged packaging and no nuts/bolts. Seller is being hopeless - doesn't have spare parts so has offered £15 discount for me to buy them myself!
Obviously I've no idea what I'd be buying so, before I return them to the seller, I thought I'd seek advice on here.
PS - This is my first post but just wanted to say thanks to all contributors that made my purchase of a D4 so much easier. Love it.
Thanks all.

Think the nuts holding the steps onto the brackets are 8mm . Not sure on nuts securing bracket to car though. Might be 15 mm Question

Edit possible 8mm thread size for the bolts , the 15mm was referring to the socket needed.

Thanks. 8mm sounds about right - any idea on length?

Did anybody have any issues with sill rust or rot when removing the side steps.?

Going to look at at a disco this weekend, the guy said the steps are rusted, but it looks like that happens to them all.
I dont want to buy it then take the steps off and find its Shocked scrap

Mine had some slight sill rust but only superficial.

I gave it a good clean then painted some rust protection and hammerite.

Well, I ordered a set of ‘OEM replacement’ ones off eBay and finally got around to fitting them today. I think it’s safe to say the old ones were overdue for replacement.

I took all the old hardware off, cleaned up the sill and gave it a good bath of Dinitrol. Went to fit the new brackets and two of them aren’t even close to lining up with the holes in the frame.

Fortunately, the old ones are still solid, so I cleaned them up and gave them a coat of paint.

Part of me is wondering if I shouldn’t just bite the bullet and get the Prospeed ones instead though.
