Fuel cap and lock

Hi all

My fuel cap flap thing doesn’t lock. I’m wondering is it easiest to replace the lock on the flap or to get a lockable cap please?

Don’t mind fixing the problem if it’s a quick fix lol

Thanks

There are about 3 causes of the lock not working.

1. The rod that comes out and goes into the flap is broken
2. The hole in the flap is broken off
3. Electrical

Leave the flap open, and press lock on your key.
See if you can see a rod moving in the hole or out of it. If its not coming out, its broken off.

It is possible to bodge a fix.
Remove the lock assembly from inside the boot
Test it on the car to ensure the motor is working
Cut about 1cm off the outer bycycle cable end (so the outer sheath is shorter)
Trim the plastic rod, so it will go all the way thru the hole.
Refit

I see locking caps are around £20

If you mean that the fuel flap will not stay closed, I would say more likely this is the solution,

ARV780020 Bezel Fuel Flap
CAL500070 Fuel Flap Seal Bezel

I have done several, really easy to fit.

Less than £5 (add on postage)

Or buy the kit for £12.

Hi all

I got the locking kit off eBay but I think it’s the casing that’s broke too? See image

I tried to install the bits off the kit. Put the spring and box bit in.. then try to clip the little swinging T plastic thing.

But if you can see in the image, the bottom of the casing may be damaged this not having anything for the T bit to insert and hold in to?
