Manual Gearbox
Just about to strip down a D3 manual box. Some plank didn't put any oil in it last service. Now very noisey. Anyone know of any workshop manuals or drawings that are available?

When do you change the oil in a manual gearbox? Certainly not every service as far as I'm aware.
Had mine in for 10 year service earlier this year and if it's called for then it'll have been done.
Can't recall anytime getting charged for gearbox oil.D3 57 xs Stornaway grey

And in there lies a tale.
At my 10 year service, I queried with the main dealer why the gearbox and diff oils weren't itemised on the receipt despite the car going in for a 10 year service. I quickly found out diffs and gearbox had been missed yet should have been done.
They'd given me a receipt for a 10 year service but charged for a regular service so hadn't done the major oil changes. After I refocused them they quickly agreed to complete the outstanding work and "take this one on the chin". Didn't cost any more.
Always, always check with a main dealer service that you got what you'd paid for and never presume they'll do what you expect or what is on the schedule because they probably wont.
In short, don't wallow in ignorant bliss believing they've done a good job.Mods:

Did anybody strip the manual box down..? I have a very good 2005 Disco 3 that rumbles on idle & noise disappears when the clutch is pressed & gearbox stops rotating.
I’ve done plenty of gearbox overhauls previously but nice to know if special tools are needed etc.

is that not the clutch thrust bearing ? Dose it also do it in Neutral ?
Hi, not the thrust bearing, I would have sworn it was though, had it replaced last year, gotta remove box & strip, gonna change oil later.. it’s a strange rumble unfortunately
