My first D3 in 2007 was a manual, loved it. It drove and towed really well.

I did nurse the clutch when manoeuvring a trailer as on one occasion it did get pretty hot and smelly. Maybe a weak point generally.

Time moves on and I’m now a total auto convert as the D4 and auto box just work so well together.

Check the DM flywheel and clutch before you go at the gearbox as they are very robust. Unless that is it's lost the oil or never been changed.

If there's any lateral movement between the DMF and the hub it's kaput! Though around 10mm rotary free play between the two is normal. To be honest, I would not put it back together without fitting a new clutch, LUK is the OEM. Thumbs Up
