Tight Tolerance mode for wheel alignment - does it stay in t
Anyone able to confirm/advise if once set to Tight Tolerance mode via the GAP Diagnostic IID Tool the vehicle remains in this mode until its turned off/set to normal mode? Does this include if the vehicle and engine are turned on and off a few times etc?
I'm asking as there aren't wheel aligners locally with the ability to activate this mode, so I intend to when I drop the vehicle off but it will then be left off for a while before they start it and move into a hoist to do the wheel rotation, then back off and off for a while before onto the wheel alignment hoist - I'm wanting to ensure that by the time the wheel alignment commences it's still in this mode.Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

To my Knowledge – I just did it for the 4 Wheel alignment – you need to enable „normal Mode“ leaving tight tolerance.
At least I found the car set to tight tolerance after the alignment.Achim

Is the steering angle calibration required in all cases? When mine was last aligned, they locked the steering wheel in the dead-ahead position then aligned the wheels to that..

It's in your GAP IID menu and takes 2 mins to do. It should be done after any adjustments to the geometry, particularly the tracking as the position of the front wheels will have changed relative to the steering wheel.
TTM must be returned to "normal" otherwise it will stay in TTM yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Its very easy
you need to drive the vehicle and mark the position of the steering wheel when driving straight.
I put a strip of insulating tape on top of the dash and then when driving i place one on the wheel so that it lines up.
Stop the vehicle and align the two marks, using your Gap select calibration then steering and after a couple of seconds it will say operation complete and your all done.

Does that then level the steering wheel horizontal then if it was slightly off horizontal after an alignment.?Visitor from fullfatrr.com

No if its not horisontal after alignment its not been done right.
Tight tollerance mode just makes sure the suspension heights on all four corners are as close to perfect as they can get,
Assuming that its calibrated correctly.
Normally the suspension has too move a set distance and stay there for a while before the ecu changes the height. TT mode reduces the distance the suspension has to move before it changes.Andrew

Dont get to hung up on TT mode, its all well and good when the car is new and nothing is worn on the steering and suspension bushes. Once a car is a few years old and things are starting to wear it makes little difference if its used or not.
