D3 decided it no longer liked the taste of its brake fluid!

I'd planned to 'enjoy' a nice two week break with my girlfriend and the car, 2007 TDV6 HSE, on the Isle of Skye; for a combination of wild camping and more sturdy accommodation. The journey up was lovely and the disco performed well both on-road (nearly 34 mpg on the longer stretches of the M6!) and off-road.

4 days into the trip, and she notices a puddle forming about a foot in from the NSR wheel, and growing bigger at an alarming rate. Knowing break fluid when I saw it, a quick call to the RAC - who recommended a local garage they contract work out to - and we were on the road.

The 15 mile trip was certainly hair-raising, using command shift to control speed down the bigger hills! Feeling the brakes getting more spongey with every press of the pedal was worrying - to say the least - and by the time we arrived at the garage, the brake fluid level warning light was glowing a furious red (a similar colour to my face after that drive, I'm told).

We left the car with a bloke who assured me that it would be done by 4pm that same afternoon.

That was Friday. At 4pm, they said they were delayed and would phone me first thing 'tomorrow.'

It's now Saturday, and the garage is closed until Monday morning. We've got a single set of clothes each, and the bare minimum camping equipment, and no food (thinking we'd be able to get the rest of it from the car this morning).

I'm kicking myself for not having the brake pipes done after the last advisory! Just the holiday I needed!
