FBH ticking but no startup sequence???
So I've fitted a FBH controller and had it working using GSM for over a week. However, I noticed that on a couple of occasions it wouldn't start and I had to reset by pulling the FBH fuse (28 I think). Based on this and the smokey starts I thought I'll take the unit off and strip it down for a decoking, new gasket and seals.
I put the unit back and it started up and fired for about a minute then shut down. I have since pulled the fuse but the unit will only make a 'ticking' noise, no pump or fan?
Could it be that the unit only burnt the little bit of fuel that was left in the hose and now has air trapped and needs to be bled, is it not self bleeding?
Why would the startup sequence not even initiate, the only noise is a ticking sound? I'm scratching my head on this one.

Quite simple....
The ecu or control unit on the webasto does a preliminary check of all of the needed components
If one is faulty or bad connected...it does not initiate startup...
Since the fan is not even start in this preliminary stage... the fault can be in that “corner”...
Can not be fuel in this stage
If there is air in the fuel line.. it would start up normally fan blows.. including starting up the dosingpump... but cut then out, because it is not starts to burn...
Other symptoms there
Stay away from priming for now... makes things worse most of the time...Best regards
Harold

Could it be that the FBH didn’t have coolant in it and the unit has locked itself out from an overheat event?
Did you run the engine / add coolant / bleed coolant / run the FBH coolant pump at all before you fired it up?

Thanks fellas, I fired it up after topping coolant up but I’m not convinced the coolant made its way into the FBH. After it refused to start I did run the engine and bleed, however, it’s still not initiating the startup sequence.
When it’s not fired up before a pulled fuse normally did the trick. Why won’t that work now? Are there different lock-out levels?

Pulling a fuse is not a solution in itself...
It only goes in lock when there is something wrong....
When the real problem is cured, then Erasing the errors can be necessary to get it it startup again..
(If temp is 8 degrees celcius or higher and the tank full)
Either pulling a fuse (technically take the current off) or by software...
But still cure the real mechanical error first.....Best regards

Finally got a few minutes to have another look. As I can only hear a clicking sound from the FBH unit and no fan start I checked fuel delivery. I pulled the flexi fuel pip off the rigid pipe at the FBH and no fuel. I then crawled underneath to check if the dosing pump was making a pulsing/clicking sound - nothing. I pulled the connector off and gave it a spray with contact cleaner but to no avail. Frustratingly I noticed the plastic undertray hasn't been fitted after it's last service exposing the 'sensitive under-carriage'.
How can I check if the fault lies with the pump or the controller itself (is it possible to get a copy of the webasto diagnosis software)?
Cheers,
Y

Buy a diagnostic cable from the shop and download the free software from Webasto.
As Harold has already stated if the fan is not making a noise its most likely that, that has failedAndrew

You will not hear the fuel pump initially as delivery does not begin until later in the start up sequence!
You should hear the fan spool up as the burner goes through it's component tests. Once all the tests are completed and without the presence of a fault, only then will the fuel pump be permitted to run!
If there is a fault detected, fuel will not be delivered.
It does sound like you may have a fan related issue, so Webasto WTT diagnostics using the adapter kit available from the shop will pin point the fault.
PS Pay attention to Motolab's comments, he has and eaten these for breakfast over many years yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Apologies fellas, I am now paying attention. I'll heed your sound advice, and look at buying the interface cable and download the software.

Back up and running after clearing the fault codes. Great piece of Webasto software and supporting information on here!
Thanks
