HP-Power Steering Pipes.

Whilst changing a Water Pump on a Vauxhall Corsa D., My SWMBO returned from transporting her Elderlys to get their COVID Vaccines in my 2014-D4 Very Happy ....[this was her first time in it Solo].
Soon after I perchanced to notice a somewhat large pool of Oil developing underneath my D4.
This Oil has coated the Offside front underside along the metal plates and dripping all over the damned place. My first thoughts were of great worry and despair. Big Cry

Though I could not initially do anything but glare at the mess whilst trying not to panic and hurriedly fixing said Corsa D so I could investigate further.....not that I wanted too really. Big Cry

Anywho.....after investigating and realising it wasn't the Crank-seal etc, I found it to be the High Pressure pipes on the Steering Rack itself which have corroded and squirting fluid everywhere.

My Questions are....[at this early pre-repair stage]......
Is this something anyone has undertaken amongst us here on the forum and how easy a repair was it? And would anyone recommend a particular fluid to replenish the reservoir with?
I have looked on Advanced Factors site and do not see these pipes listed for sale....just the image below of the Rack Diagram.....which I have edited to highlight where the leak is coming from via the arrow and am wondering how they are attached at the other end as highlighted by the red circle?

Cheers fella. Thumbs Up

Been online and bought said pipes. Have you any experience of this work and if so any pointers? It doesn't look to painful tho.

Thumbs Up

All down to cost, been made with kunifer, last the service life of the rack, Salt.... need to bleed the steering after fitting new pipes, usual way is to turn the steering from lock to lock, keep an eye on the reservoir, top up as necessary. Better if the front wheels are raised off the ground.

I have the same problem with corroded and leaking pipes, how easy was it to remove the old male unions? I’m afraid of stripping the heads and ending up in a right mess…..

Snip the old pipe above the Unions so you can get good and proper purchase on them.Use a 7/16ths spanner.

Fit new pipe loosely at both ends of pump first....before nipping them up properly, with a 7/16ths Spanner.

The 7/16ths spanner is your friend in this operation. It is easy enough otherwise....just fiddly at times.

Good luck.

PS....if you do not have a 7/16ths spanner....Get one!

That’s great thanks, it’s given me the confidence to go ahead and I’ll order up a 7/16 spanner for the job.
