Charging System fault

Not sure what i've done here Laughing but managed to Censored something up on MY15 D4 that is sat on my drive. Its a lockdown project of either new D4 for me or sell on but that's another thread for later.

I had both a new main and SS battery in December and as its been sat waiting for its MOT and service I've been in and out of it periodically and kept battery on CTEK charging. On Sunday I started car with CTEK still attached and ever since get the Charging System Fault. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Here is what the IID is showing

GWM-Gateway module

Seen a few threads but wondered where to start troubleshooting (and hoping not alternator)

Looks like heated wheel not working either Neutral

Do we think this is the way to go?

Hello

Is this issue resolved. I had the same after I replaced my battery a few years ago. Eventually found a thin wire, covered in a black sheath leading from the + (positive) terminal to a computer box which had been pinched somehow and broke. Although the battery was charging as normal, I still had the same warning come on. Rejoined or reconnected the wire and fault cleared.

I've looked at the wire battery side and it looks ok but i'll trace all the way the to the module to be sure Thumbs Up

Yes on main and ss battery and did again after error.

I drove round the block after it first appeared and it went away but now its back and doesn't go away.
I've noticed that the heated steering wheel and heated seats don't work now either...couldn't see any issues with fuses...

hoping that its a wire pinched and not a new alternator as this project is starting to keep me awake at night!

Hello again

Something I found with the Disco4 which my 3 did not do. As soon as you have some sort of low voltage, the electrical system starts shedding some optional extras. such as the MOT, the heated seating etc. Have you looked at the voltage the alternator is providing via the MOT screen.

You would need to enter the hidden menu and then go to vehicle signals. Will give you the voltage sensed after the voltage regulator. If it is low, then it could be the alternator. BUT...On my V8, when my alternator packed up...sounded like a supercharger about to explode, I had no warning indications, or charging faults, just saw the voltage was down to 11,7v, and shortly thereafter a Low Battery warning.

Good Luck

As diagnosed by the masses - the alternator was intermittently failing which was causing this error.

To be swapped out this week all being well Thumbs Up

Must be something in the air. Same thing charging warning then limp mode.

In having new one fitted as we speak. Had low battery warning but resolved after a good drive.
