Roof rack rail connection issue
Hi all
Just trying to get the roof rails on as per a video on YouTube. But mine seem to be getting jammed:
The rail has been tampered with before me, so wondering whether the bolts are too high maybe or something.
Used key to undo both sides
Held rail slanted and clipped one side in the double groove. Did other side with Alan key loose.
Tilted the rail and tried to slide it under but the bolt underneath is hitting the plastic lock.
See image
Am I right in presuming the bolts are too high headed? If so could I get a part number for low profile cheap bolts please?
Or hints to get it on and leaving it on.
Thanks as usual!!

I figured it out haha
Just undo the centre rail bolts, fit the cross rail, then refit the centre bolts 😂 saved money time and frustration haha
And looks lovely!

Hi
Hope the above helped
If I may add it will be best to replace the bolts in order u can fit the blanking caps, otherwise when it rains it can pass onto ur headlining

Ok thanks and it’s been fine had it months with no leaks!
Cheers for the heads up I’ll put some rubber washers on for now and make sure they’re nice and tight.

Defo I’d be fuming haha
One was actually not all the way down as well as the wrench bit wouldn’t go past the rail lip. Good call!

???
On my D3, there is no open connection between the rail mounting threads and the inside...
And the caps are not water tight either.... they are just there for culprit, whistle, etc...
What do i miss here?Best regards

Hiya
When I took my headlining out to replace my curtain airbags I noticed some threads that were in line with the roof rails , plus in the past some posts where it was mentioned in checking bolts , roof rail covers for water ingress
Of course it goes without question I’m more than happy to hold my hands and apologise up if I’ve got it wrong

Roof rails, are fitted with the screws you linked to...
Those screws, go in another screw/bolt...
These...
These are not drilled.... so water ingress is almost impossible....
The plastic roofrail bolt caps, although are slightly slotted, so you can remove them with a small srewdriver. So not water tight.... but as said, makes no difference... these bolts are water tight enough
Opinion and images Just meant for future reference... and as i just changed my short roofrails for long ones from a D4 (OEM ones bought here on the forum) i had some recent experience with the mounting and ordered a few bolts extra, just in case.... i also have a HD alloy expedition roofrack, who was mounted directly on those bolts on my pictures... it was there for years, without caps, just bare in these screws... there no sighs of past water ingress for the last 15 years.. Best regards
