Manual transmission. Gears not showing in cluster

2008 disco 3 manual.
As i said above. Gears not showing in cluster. I have calibrated them various times but car keeps loosing them... usually when i floor the acceleratir pedal.... any ideas please[/i]

Sounds like your clutch might be slipping causing loss of calibration.

Clutch slip normally brings up other issues. Special programs off, auto park brake inactive etc.

He's had a go at calibration but it seems to revert to type. Even if the slippage is only slight it will loose calibration especially with hard acceleration. You can avoid this if you ease off hard acceleration and the clutch is not too badly worn. If it doesn't happen when driven with light throttle input it's a strong sign the clutch is on it's way out.

When it loses the gear position I.e. not showing on dash. When you switch off in that condition then try to fire it up. Does it start? If not does it start when you depress the clutch? If that is the case then it looks like the XY sensor on top of the gearbox is goosed.
 Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.
