My D4 3L diesel has an annoying whine detectable in the cabin but only for a short window approx 45mph and usually when the engine is under load (e.g. going up hill). 50mph I cant hear it and less than 45 same thing.
I've strapped my gopro under the car next to the tranfer box and it didnt record any whine. Then I strapped it next to the rear diff and no noise.
Any ideas? Its not a constant pitch whine. At 45mph if I dab the throttle it will increase the pitch slightly. Its not very high pitch like a brake squeal, but more mid-high range. I'd love to capture it and share on here, but its quite tricky to detect.
Similar noise (but much less) is detectable at the same speed going down hill... but it is much quieter.
Changing gear manually in sport mode doesnt make a huge difference. If I pop the auto box into neutral it does seem to drop the noise.
Front and rear diff oil changed recently. Was going to change the transfer box (was done 2 years ago). Auto box oil flush and replacement done 2 years ago too (before I bought the car).
Any ideas?
