I've not pulled the trigger on which tyres to buy yet but it's occurred to me I'll have 4 tyre-less rims at some point so now would be the time to get these fitted, wouldn't it ?
are they all as good as each other or are there some to avoid or will only genuine do ?.

Hardware, i have no advice for you, but, i was (shortly) interested in such an modification, untill i read (somewere) that LR versions, ONLY signal, that a tyre is empty/flat... not the real data in PSI/BAR
since only that feature (i like to see the realtime pressure) seems interesting to me, the LR ones seems rather pointless to me... if one is flat, i will now it anyway and instantly ...
so i follow your thread with interest, maybe i read it wrong....Best regards
Harold

the original LR ones on my D4 do show actual pressure on dash display - which matches pretty closely to display on air pump

Yup, D4 and RRS ones show pressure. From memory, I think the spare only shows flat or not. I got genuine from EBay for RRS, disco may be slightly different

My D4 2014 only alerts to flat or significantly under pressure. Does not display pressure values in the dash menu.
It does work though as I had a slow puncture (nail) and it told me which one. I stopped and checked and it was about 10+ PSI down so I took action (it was on the n/s rear so prob wouln't have noticed until it was much flatter on a motorway journey (?)). It must know the numbers and a threshold just doesn't display them.
I believe it only does pressure display in the later 2015 - 2016 models as I wanted it in mine and asked on here - but couldn't. If you can with a <2015 then I am all ears. Believe they are the same sensors and pickup antennas. In today's world, if you contribute something, you don't contribute enough. If you contribute nothing, you receive everything.

Hi,
and just to add another twist
istr the Mondeo we had a few years back did Not show the actual pressure but did alert when a 3psi difference happened, you "zeroed" it again and if another 3psi lost it alerted again so a slow puncture was flagged early, believe some of the aftermarket sensors work in this way

There are two types fitted, early ones (pre my15ish) Only have two settings heavy or light load and simply give a low pressure warning, and they do work. They are easily identified by the Metal hexagon Nut on the valve stem.
The later one give the pressure and warning, the two types are NOT compatible.
It is good advice to carry a spare valve as they are specific to LRs and not easily available. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
is the limitation the kit within the car for earlier on/off ones?
can it be edited in CCF to provide actual pressures if later type valves were fitted ?

If I remember correctly the system is the same but the BCM and clocks have different software to interpret the data. The system is the same as that used on many fords that did have actual values displayed. The 15/16 sensors have a different part number but again, it’s just the software in the valve.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

It is worth it, it has saved me quite a few destroyed tyres & I have been able to plug them on the run in the outback. As I carry two spares the external sensors can be moved to other tyres as needed & feel this is better than the built-in TPMS.
The only disadvantage with external sensors is if you are airing up & down a lot it takes a bit longer to take them off, but it is worth the few minutes extra for the peace of mind.
