Tyres for Disco 3 - 17"

I've just returned from Zambia and need to replace my tyres - Cooper
Discoverer ATR's.The sidewalls and tread have proved a little
disappointing!
I think that BFG's are probably the answer
The vehicle runs on 235/70/17's and I'm told that I
can use either 245's or 265's in the BFG's, but I would be grateful
for any comments and advice from the forum.
Cheers

If your D3 is a 2005 [as in your avatar/sig strip] then Yes, 265 BFG's will fit with no rubbing if using the standard 17" D3 wheels.

From what I've read here on the forum BFG's compound seems to be a lot softer than what it used to be and people were complaining that they weren't up to scratch.Alternative to BFG's are General Grabber AT2's that are getting better feedback and aren't as expensive.I havent used either but run ( occasionally) on 265/70/17's ( Maxxis) with no rubbing issues ( well nearly none Whistle )

Some info on BFG's here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic23735.html

Theres plenty of others if you trawl through the Wheels & Tyres section.

DW, the BFG's on the link you posted were the ones I bought from Ken.
There were some slight rubbing issues with his D3 cos it was a newer model.
I belive there's a chassis extension in the newer models that intrudes more into the front wheel well.
However on mine, absolutely no rubbing issues - even in access mode.

Thumbs Up

I bought the 'Ken' set from RonP.

I've had them on a couple of weeks (~300 road miles plus an excursion off-road) and had no problems.

Mine's an 05 model.

Ken

I'm confused now! Doesn't take much Embarassed

BFG's are better but they rub

AT2's don't rub but are supposedly not as good.

How does that work then Question

Thumbs Up

Best advice is to talk to AJS they do both

My Pref and not just on LR's are BFG's but Generals are great in 18's never tried any other

I run 19" Pirelli ATR's and are a great fan but I'm also waiting / trying to import Coopers xeons
