EAS ECU replacement - problems |
|
first of all a happy new year to everybody!
but now the problem with my disco 3:
some weeks ago i wanted to flash the eas ecu with an updated software, but unfortunately something went wrong during the process and the ecu was no longer responding.
tried several "hard resets", etc. to get again a successfull flash of the ecu, but nothing helped, even my lr garage could not "repair" the ecu.
got the red supsension light, message "suspension fault" and "no special modus available".
terrain response was also turned off!
car was still in "normal height" so that i could use the car so far!
so i bought an used ecu from a disco 3 with the same MY08 and the identical hardware-no.
replaced it yesterday, deleted all faults, red light turned off and went back on again with the message "suspension fault, max. 30mph)!!
a new fault appeared:
terrain response and compressor is working again and car can put in every height level!
thought that the eas ecu is not VIN-coded!? how can i change the VIN-code?!?
i am pretty sure that if i try to flash the ecu again, i will get the message that the ecu has an incorrect vin and the flash will stop!!
so what to do now!?!
called my lr-dealer, but they are open again on tuesday and the guy told me that he is not really sure if it is possible to change the VIN of the ecu!?!?
thx, martin

Whilst the EAS ECU is vin coded, if you carry out a calibration successfully you can the use the s/hand ecu ok with no error messages, although you can't change the VIN, it won't make a difference.
The error message you have will disappear once a successful calibration is done.

Yes you need to recalibrate the ECU and then your errors will go, some EAS ecu's you can put straight on and no problems but others you need to recalibrate.
Once done your good to go..

but what is a "successful" calibration!?
do you mean just the calibration of the specific heights of every sensor or something different!?
already did some height calibration but still have the fault message! SWMBO asked to get us a RELIABLE family car - I bought a Disco 3!

With SDD, you submit the measured readings, it then raises the vehicle, & lowers to normal height, gets you to re-measure & enter readings again, it cross checks what it 'should be, to the heights you measured, if this is within a few mm of each other, it allows the calibration to be written to the ecu.
thus it is successful, instead of failing.
Sorry, but I don't know how any other equipment measures or does the calibration routine.

the question is if the height of the car has to be in a specific range to get a successful calibration?
i calibrated the heights to get the following distances between hub center and wheel arch but still have the suspension fault message with red lamp:
FL: 470mm
FR: 460mm
RL: 480mm
RR: 485mm
after clearing all ecu-faults the eas ecu shows only an error that the VIN is not programmed or incompatible (CODE:U1A35).
can this error be responsible for the suspension error??

I think the thing is here that different equipment can 'adjust' the height in different ways.
If it is successfully calibrated with SDD, then your error code will disappear.
SDD uses the routine:
Measure all heights & input each corner into the screen, it raises, then lowers to std height, re-measure, then input that into the next screen, if it is near to the measurement SDD is expecting then it will be successfully calibrated. Note that the second measurement may not be the same as the first, because the suspension may stop in a slightly different place when raising & lowering, but that makes no difference as SDD is just checking the expected reading with the one you measured.
I think you are doing something else, which may, or may not be a different way to get to a similar result, but you would have to speak to the equipment supplier or someone who has done this to check if it carries out the same process.

if the second hand ecu had been previously calibrated you do not actually need to
calibrate the heights
but you need to program ecu as NEW MODULE
(it cant be just swapped)

(i would be familiar with IDS/SDD only )

No its not a case of it having to be re-programmed, but with the FM all I have had to do in the past, and have just done it on my own car is to just swap the old for the new, you then get the vin error warning, so all you do then is to go to the BCM menu and select sync ecu's with Ipack, this then puts your vin back in the ecu my second hand EAS ecu now has my vin in the slot.
Some I have done need to be re-calibrated to get rid of the error on the dash.
What I have found is that if the ECU was from a RRS and being fitted to a D3 they are more fiddly to setup..

flack, you say:

i have never heard about the need of doing some synchronisation process, etc.!!
just read that i only have to replace the ecu's and do a recalibration!
i dont know if the nanocom provides the sync-function!?
what is the Ipack!?
