Can’t unlock Disco 3 with flat battery
Good morning folks.
I have a Disco 3 (56) plate which has been parked up since the beginning of lockdown (April) I have just gone out to put the charger on to start charging but obviously can’t open on the remote fob, I have taken the cover off the passengers side door to open manually with the key but it won’t unlock it. I am thinking at some point maybe the ignition barrel was changed so it’s a different key now.
Yes I should have disconnected the battery I KNOW but didn’t.
Any suggestions on how I can get the bonnet open to at leased get the charger on, I’ve had a quick look but doesn’t look easy.
Are there any tricks out there to either open the bonnet or get in the car without breaking a window.
Cheers

The least painful way is to plug a battery conditioner into your towing electrics (if you have them).

Thanks David so basically that will push charge back up the the battery then. I have towing electrics and actually have a trailer that works the other way to charge the battery on that. I guess if I pull that apart and work out which feeds it is I could make one up with a spare plug I have in the workshop or worst case buy one of those.
Cheers Brad

Hello Brad
If you have 7 pin white/grey cap or 13 pin electrcis, the pne of these adapters attached to a battery conditioner will recharge your battery, I have a 13 pin adapter which connects to my Ctek, it works a treat, just make sure not to store the adapter in your car if you make/buy one.David

Have you tried plugging your trailer into the car, maybe the trailer battery might flow back to the car to help it open??David

I would by that’s the same, it’s a fire training trailer which has a battery to open the solenoids but not used that for months so that’s flat too but I’m going to charge that and see. Only other option is open that up and see if I can work out which feeds it is and make one up with a spare plug.

Had similar with key not working on passenger lock. Presumed that the ignition lock had been changed at some point as when i tried to unlock it felt like the key casing was going to break. Just had new keys and had the blade from the old one. Had nothing to lose so tried with just the blade and some grips and it opened. May be worth trying before investing in changing.

Reviving an old thread in the hope for some help....
So, the battery is flat on my D3 and I can't unlock it with either fob and the manual lock on the passenger door is doing nothing. It turns about 30 degrees counter clockwise but maybe 5 degrees clockwise. Which way unlocks it manually please? Any other tips to get in? As you can imagine, this is causing some problems parked where it is!
Thanks in advance.

If they have not been maintained or used for a while they need near key breaking effort turning clockwise to open, penetrating oil might help but the part that seizes is well concealed. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for your swift response, now that I know it's clockwise and had the potential to open, I'll keep at it.

You can add power to the trailer plug which will let you unlock with the fob, just need a spare battery and a couple of wires.
Or if you want to take the bash plate off you can use jumper leads on the starter motor and chassis.

Cannot get the key to turn clockwise without being certain I would break the key or lock if I turned with any more force. Only have single 7 pin electrics so it will have to be jump pack to the starter 🫤. Thanks for all the advice.

You do need to use plyers,’so you don’t break the key plastic.
