Disco 3 retrofitting a DPF to make tax cheaper
Hi, I've seen you can buy a used DPF and exhaust (as I believe the DPF and non DPF are different systems) for not much money here in the UK. Is it worth retrofitting a DPF, does it cause any problems, will it regen fine, does the computer need modifying or anything?
Finally, will it bring the tax price on my '09 below £565 into a lower bracket (if it will, and won't cause major problems, it'll pay for itself within the year or so)
It mostly won't be used for short journeys, with most journeys over 50 miles non stop.
I doubt it will make any difference and also doubt it can be retrofittedRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

If it could be retrofitted easily then it is unlikely to lead to any tax changes as it could just as easily be removed!Series 1 V8

Even if you can fit the DPF filter I wouldn’t have thought you could do any of the control/regeneration changes to control systems to make it work..... also I wouldn’t have thought it would make any difference on tax as the vehicle didn’t have it when certified.RLD CB Bracket

I remember years ago fitting a DPF system to a Freelander 2 when I was out in Japan on business, I worked for JLR. We had to change the exhaust, fit the sensors and pipe work and reprogramme the engine management to understand what was needed. The vehicle tax is decided when the car is built and the VIN number includes information about whether it has DPF or not. I know you can't change the VIN number on a car as that's illegal so even if you could fit the system, it's parts and software, you wont be able to convince the authorities you need to pay less tax.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
