One thing I’ve noticed on-site this year...

I’m at The Quiet site in Ullswater. We’ve been many times over the past 13 years. Always a favourite place.

Normally there are quite a few other Discovery’s around the site.

This year the site is rammed full, but only mine and 1 other Disco! The most popular outfit is definitely the VW Transporter campers! There are some really nice setups. Most have got a decent size drive-away awning. One has a drive- away teepee complete with wood burner!

So maybe the times are changing!

Perhaps the former users of Discoverys have moved over to using motorised caravans? There seems to have been a huge increase in new mid-size units. During my recent three week expedition there were just as many Discoverys on Caravan Club sites but almost always towing a very new very large caravan.

I’ll get a picture of the teepee-Veedub setup later, it’s driven away just now 😀

There are a lot of first time campers here, along with plenty of experienced setups. It’s great to help out some of the less experienced.

Good time to be in the camping accessories business I reckon, because some of the cheapo Halfords/Decathlon equipment doesn’t last long.

Well let's not forget, the D3/4 also has a drive-away tent.
Bought one this year, but not been able to use it yet because of Covid and building work at home.
Also bought a nice high quality ground sheet and I've got the window insulation blinds on order.
AND I've also got a log burner installed Wink
...... well that's what I used to tell people when they enquired what the chimney (rai) was for. Laughing
Heck, I even have my own toilet cubicle.
Oh, and I'll use my kayak as a roof box.
Who needs/wants a VW Transporter!!!!

The Quiet Site is great, in fact the first time I went, I think it was your booking Gareth that I took over (when you couldn't make it), lovely site. Thumbs Up

Not my set up..... he's parked the wrong way, so not a drive-away set up there. Rolling Eyes

Lightweight speedy arrangement and probably my preference over the driveway awning. Wink

Haha!!
I must admit that looking at some of the set-ups, both Disco and Van, have aroused some interests in me!!
Looking like my lockdown stuck in the DR Congo is finally coming to an end. Rumours abound that I may be flying out Monday night.
My 8-month sojourn is coming to an end and the wish list is now pretty long!!

United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Bought a trailer tent last year after having a decathlon tent implode on the last trip to Cornwall.
Much happier with the trailer setup, i now have A/C, heating, real beds and can get it setup in about 10 minutes. Im done with tent poles.
