D3 in cabin woosh under acceleration
Good morning all,
So I bought a D3 on Friday knowing it needed a couple of jobs (new fog, seat release cable, bulbs etc) but after driving it the 100 miles home I have noticed an odd sound inside that I thought was normal on the test drive.
When the turbo comes on boost it sounds like the interior fan increases in power.
My thoughts on causes are possibly a split boost pipe or my fear is a split crossover pipe.
I've checked the intercooler pipes and to be honest either way I think they need some love.
The car doesn't smoke, it returns 34mpg on a motorway run and 28mpg round town. There is a slight possible smell of exhaust in the cabin but that could be the air freshener the dealer sprayed inside that smelt like something used to kill a horse.
Any advice would be great.
I like in Scarborough North Yorkshire.

Whilst I can understand that you may want to sort out some of the minor issues yourself surely it is the dealers problem if it is the cross-over pipe?Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

The dealer is refusing to accept it is an issue. He says no ECU fault, no smoke, no loss of power, no issues.
He had a few in and I test drove them all, one was noticeably faulty, revs bouncing and blue smoke, he said he wouldn't like to sell it as it's obviously faulty. This one though had a recon engine 31k ago and in all honesty if it wasn't for the noise I wouldn't even know anything was possibly wrong.
On a side note I believe it has had the EGRs blanked from looking at the paperwork, could they be leaking?
The sound appears to be coming from the passengers of the car.

It had a new turbo as well so hopefully it won't be that, would it not have a lack of boost of it was stuck open?

No these do not have a dump valve they are variable vane turbos. The actuator moves vanes inside the turbo that direct the gas flow onto or away from the turbine. If the turbo is seized on full boost it can make the turbo overspin and it causes that sort of sound.
You should be able to just about see the actuator rod by looking down from the top of the engine or through the gap in the chassis then get somebody to turn the ignition on, it should cycle through its full range

Sounds like an easy thing to check, told the Mrs she will need to turn the car on while I have my head in the engine bay and she looked scared to death haha.
If it is sized is it an easy fix? Like releasing it with some elbow grease.

Of see rod looking through passenger wheel arch (if heat shield missing )
It’s one of the things that make a noise at switching ignition on and off
Adding Wynn’s vvt cleaner in fuel tank is
A good first step if seized

Are we talking about shield 1 or 2 as I've just removed the bolt for No1 and it won't move.
