Well, I finally bit the bullet and went for a full auto gearbox rebuild from what I would call a large and reputable rebuilder. The rebuilt box is largely ok but there are a couple of issues that I’m not completely sure about and would appreciate your views……
I’ve driven about 500 or so miles with the rebuilt box and it is generally ok apart from two separate instances of “P0783 3-4 shift” error codes being stored and causing the vehicle going into the F limp or protection mode. This happened about 300 miles apart and when under relative low speed and low load. I have also deliberately driven it hard and aggressively on a few occasions to see if I can reproduce it or other errors but all seems good and I was unable to force this or any other errors to happen.
At the moment I’m prepared to believe it could be a learning or adaption thing whereby it needs to further learn speeds , load and torque. So far the rebuilder has been accommodating and helpful.
I would appreciate if anyone who has had a rebuilt ZF auto has encountered similar error issues and whether it was a learning or adaption thing??
Also is there any way to get the dash display to show what actual gear is selected when in normal auto mode rather than just when in sport mode rather than show just the little D… I wanted it it to show the same way as when in sport mode.
Anyhoo enough for now!
Cheers
David

I’m pretty sure you can see the gear and solenoid values through IID’s live values feature. Of course you need an IID then…
(For non-diagnostic purposes, which I think is what you really meant, I do not believe it is possible)

Take it back to the gearbox company, if they'd rebuilt it correctly you should have zero problems.
