Leather seats - Recondition or buy second hand |
|
So, on my 7 seater I have the alpaca coloured leather seats.
As on most, the drivers side is split and showing signs of wear, plus the second row have some kind of spill/stains on them.
Just wondered if anyone has had their leather seats repaired/reconditioned or just replaced with second hand set ?
I am not sure on the costs of getting the leather repaired/reconditioned versus a second hand set.
Oh also, can you replace D3 with D4 seats (direct swap or some fiddling required)
Any info or advice appreciated.

If it's HSE spec D3 all electric seats I don't reckon you can swap for same on a D4.
I reckon on the D3 all the controls are on the seat base, whilst on the D4 they're on the seat base and the door card.
Might be wrong, but I'd much prefer to have D3 HSE seats fitted to my D4 HSE. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Thanks for the info, just seeing if there are more options that just the D3 seats as a replacement.
The heated seat elements need replacing, so thats a job needed doing anyway and needs considering if replacing or repairing.

You can buy all the parts needed from LR, the seat foam, leather covers etc.
I’ve never used them myself, but Seat Surgeons always get glowing reviews.
For a cleaning and repair diy solution Furniture Clinic products are brilliant. I have used them myself and they do what they say they will.

Worth looking for a local leather restoration specialist
One near me in Lincoln charged £65 to replace the worn side panel with a matched piece and freshen up the rest of the seat base - colour matched all resown and sorted for another few years
I just took in the cover after removing from the base. Easy to take off and refit (hogrings are a pain so I used tie wraps trimmed short and they have lasted well.
If you repair yourself using one of the leather kits you could always swap both seat base cushions over at the front so the repaired section would be next to the transmission tunnel
Must stop buying shiny toys....

Personally I would repair what you have, a second hand set is likely to have issues also.
I had a Saab 9-3 a few years ago and I bought a second hand set of seats, ended up managing to make two good front seats from the four seats I had, but they still weren't ideal. Around the same time my neighbour took their Toyota to an upholsterer to fix their seats, looked great, car was back the same day, no problem, little hassle. 2007 D3 2.7TD SE - Vienna Green
