Time to attend to rust tank strap.
As some will already know the lump of steel holding the tank (the tank strap) gets very rusty. Well I decided I was going to remove mine, get it cleaned and hot spray galvanised. So on Friday evening I got to work and dropped the tank with the help of my floor transmission jack.
The tank was almost empty making thing easier, especially when it came to separating the tank from the strap. This I did by sliding 2 lengths of 6x1 between the tank and strap and propping it with axle stands then I could drop the jack all the way and slid the strap out. This is how it looked;
As you will notice there is quite a hole in it which need a repair patch.
The strap is away getting cleaned and galvanised so I'll be back when I have it back to let you know how it goes/looks.

Just got the strap back from the galvanisers
.
Sand blasting shows up a few more small holes, but otherwise just caught it in time and no serious weakening of the strap. Just need to get it painted and refitted.

Nice job.
Has your D3 spent much of its life in or around the sea? There seems to be a disproportionate amount of rust on your car. I dread to think what the inside of the chassis looks like!

Not that I'm aware, but the most rust is confined to the rear from start of rear aches back. It is also mostly surface rust just caught in time. only the tank strap and LPG tank are realy serious and LPG tank need replaced. But from what I read in other posts severe rust in the strap in not uncommon.
