hello, i have a range rover sport 05 2.7td hse, anyway ive got a little problem with it and every google search links me to here so thaught i would join you boys to see if i can get to the bottom of it.
Right so if your driving along (most noticeable at 30mph) does it at other speeds of about 50 up hill also, but if your at constant speed the rev counter fluctuates up and down by a few 100 rpm maybe from say 1700-2000 and seems to surge a little, however unless you notice the rev counter you cant really tell, if your under load accelerating it doesnt do it, as far as i can work out it still occurs in auto, sport or manual mode at the same speed and is also present with cruise controll on.
this morning ive fitted egr blanking kit as i read it could be linked and my bro a mechanic and disco 3 owner said its best to be rid of it, i havent test driven it yet.
next im thinking check intercooler pipes for splits etc though they seem to be ok.
after that im thinking gearbox oil flush and change (need someone in the middlesbrough area to do this thats good) or will travel to a good recomended person.
anyway am i heading in the right direction, this is my first landrover so not used to issues, many thanks shadrack
p.s. anyone know where the sensor is underthe body that locates obstructions as if i lower into access mode it springs straight back to extended, not too bothered about this though as i dont need access mode.

Welcome to the Forum.
This could be a torque converter problem but I am surprised that it is not induced by increased load. A cheap "cure" could be a tube of Dr Tranny shudderfix in the automatic transmission fluid. Do a search on here, plenty of information. Also do a search under "judder" which is how the later stage of the symptoms can feel. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

thanks for the welcome barney!
i think i may get a judder under hard acceleration from a standstill, im thinking then if i were to get the mega flush and add two tubes of this 'dr tranny' it should cure it, i mean it drives spot on relly just im abit well i like everything to be right and ive only had it a few weeks.

If you have a slipping TC, then try one tube of Dr Tranny. I am not convinced on the merits of more tubes - you have to work out what is causing that underlying problem. It may be age and deterioration of the ATF fluid, but it could also be contamination of the ATF from a leaking rad/ATF cooler (shared). In the case of the latter the Dr Tranny may simply defer the inevitable - TC replacement and some would argue an automatic transmission rebuild (depends upon extent of contamibation).
Get the ATF tested for glycol. If all clear, then use the Dr Tranny for a short term fix, but have the ATF flushed for longer term fix. Geoff on here is touring the country with his flushing machine.
If you have glycol in the ATF you will need a replacement rad/ATF cooler or a separate ATF cooler. Do that before the flush. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

do you know where he is, im in the north east, and if the case is to go for the full flush thats ok, as for transmission build i'd rather not but i like my cars to be perfect so this surge doesnt fit my bill, apart from odd niggles im loving the landrover but ive been a bm man for the last 10 years so wondering if ive made the correct choice!
would you try a tube of the dr tranny or a flush im on 130k so a flush maybe the better option

Mine is the same although it feels like engine rather than gearbox. I'm going down your path of blanking my egr valves and then cleaning my map sensor of gunk if it is. My car has the same surge as yours with fluctuating revs which you can't really feel but if I give mine some welly it speeds up and slows down kinda feeling.

At 130k, you are getting on for twice the reccommended service interval as specified by ZF themselves, and almost at the interval specified by Land Rover.
IMHO, replace the oil regardless. Even better if you can have a Megaflush done, as it replaces a whole lot more oil than a drain and refill, and add a tube of Dr Tranny at the same time My D3 Build Thread

right so done abit more driving/testing since blanking egr it doesnt seem as noticeable, i phoned a landrover specialist but since dismist them as i found out its where my bros mate used to work and why he left, now thinking maybe just get dealers to swap it unless i can find someone in the north east who will do a flush.
symtoms are slight surging and with radio off i can here a wiring noise (v.quiet that occurs in the same rythm as the fluctuating revs, it sounds trans ish from under seat as opose to from engine, ive also ordered a tube of dr tranny, so thinking get box flushed and get the dr tranny put in new atf and hope it cures it, only other issue i have is suspension, anyone know if theres any laptop diagnostic programs for landrover, ive always had bmws before and had one called bmw 1.4.0 which read all faults re set and coded on bmws.
thanks

There is also a gearbox oil filter pan which is worth changing at the same time as the oil
in the gearbox. I get a gearbox noise on mine when in manual mode and only hear it with window open. I wish I got a
manual disco 3 now. I'm always worrying about the damn thing.
As long as it keeps going and doesn't let me down I'm happy I suppose.

I would check on it for part numbers and match them personally.
Did you clean the map sensor once you blacked the egrs. I read egr
Valves cause the map sensor to gunk up due to the old gasses passing. That
Gives bad mpg and on that account not run properly I guess. My
Next job is to blank my egrs and clean my map sensor because of
The flickering revs on cruise control. when I went up very steep hill from
Standstill yesterday. mine even starts kangerooing. I went into lowrange to stop it.
