I'm running the Pirelli AT+ on my RRS in 255/55/19 format. It's a decent enough tyre but it's not a competitor for the chunky tyres being discussed by any stretch of the imagination.
I never intended to imply that they were. 👍
I do think that the Pirelli AT+ and the TR system, combined with some off road driving knowledge would see you going most places you’d want to get to.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Just an aside note here to you LT, I used to have a Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 on lease. It was a stunning car. It was the model before all that touch screen crap they put in, so had actual buttons and dials to turn, which I prefer.
I wanted so badly to buy it at the end of the lease... but, the cost was monstrously high so I elected to part ways. But if I had had enough money to buy and not miss it I would have. Stunning machine. But saying that, I love the D4 just as a much as the RR easily. So I definitely don't see the D4 as a "downgrade" at all.Mike

The D4 is a much more practical and versatile vehicle than the L405 FFRR, in my opinion. Unfortunately there isn’t a direct replacement for the D4, from any marque, so I ended up with the FFRR. 👍2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Sorry, it does read that I was implying that you were. My apologies.
I found the AT+ struggled on very wet grassland where mud easily comes up even when just walking around on it. But then the Grabber AT3 would have done so too and I wouldn't be surprised if most tyres short of a MT would also struggle. I did get through but it did result in some surface damage to the field. But that was this winter when even a tractor struggled to pull a beaters' trailer on what is normally a grass field.
I had the Pirelli ATR for a while (my first AT tyre). I did find that it struggled in some conditions where the subsequent Grabber AT didn't. But the ATR was a better tyre on the road.

The BMW X7 has a split tailgate and seven seats (the middle ones being better than the D5's and the rear pair being just about full size too). A better on road drive but not nearly so good off road as the D4 of course. There's a choice of engines too. Not sure it's got a huge tow capacity, however.
Oh, and it's been lightly tapped with an ugly stick at the front. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

To be fair, wet grass is one of the easiest things to get stuck on. I've been out in the past to a few "pay n plays" and one guy in a Defender 110 (it was a non TC type) was stuck fast on it. Everybody was laughing but... you know... wet grass is evil. Mike

BFG KO2 265/60/18 every day including Sundays, 3 peak rated for winter. With 265/60/18 KM3 you will be going know where fast in the snow but great for Mud plugging.

As above, I’ve got BFG KO2 on my Compomotives. 265/60/18. They’re a great all rounder and definitely quiet compared to the Duratracs I had on my 19s. Interestingly though, the slightly higher profile has eradicated the speedo over read you get standard in all cars. It’s akin to being a calibrated speedo it’s that exact (to speed signs and using speed app via GPS). I’d be careful going to 65 profile etc (assuming 265 width or above) as your speedo would likely under-read.Discovery 4 XXV

I have the same issue with my D2 when I switch to the off road wheels. They are 1.5" bigger than standard so, I have to always drive 2 to 5 mph "under" the speed limit. But with Cooper STT pro's honestly, the fastest I would be prepared to do is 60mph. Even in the dry.Mike

Oddly, the same here. My speedo was always a bit out on standard LR wheels / tires (per Waze GPS speed on highway). Since equipping the Compos and 265/65/18 BF KO2s, it is spot on now.
I also ran this same wheel and tire combo on my last D4 for nearly 5 years without issue. They do rub ever so slightly on the frame horns behind the wheel, only while reversing at full lock, however that only lasts a very short time. Once you run some mm off in wear over time, they are perfectly fine.2016 D4 HSE Lux
