D4 - 64 Plate : Start / Stop Fault... |
|
My start stop fault has been with me for some time. It doesn’t affect the car and in fact, I prefer it being off by default.
The issue is that, I want to trade the car in and I know they’ll knock me down for the dash light / stating it’s not working.
Anyway; with it being under warranty; I’ve asked to have it looked at and sorted but they say it’s a battery issue, most likely, and therefore the warranty won’t cover it...
What’s the likely issue and ballpark costs?

I had this on my (previous) 2015 car. Replaced the battery with one of these : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EK151-Exide-Sto...2181822822 and the yellow dash light went away (Stop start still didn't work however!)
Good luck,
Mark

Wow! Nice one.
I’ll investigate further and may well give this a go!

Yes good point! I measured both mine and the little stop/start one was reading something like 8V when disconnected so clearly it was dead.
Cheers

Yep, I had a similar voltage to you and the warning light. Changed it and no more warning light. Stu

Is this the same / right one?

Also, easy to fit? I thought the car’s computer had to be told that there has been a new battery put in...
I suppose I could call Land Rover Assist and have them do the battery and computer (bit cheeky but they are always sound).

I got the part number from this thread : https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/my14-stopst...66099.html
...which I understood to be identical to the LR supplied one, just without the LR branding.
Just swapped it out in about 10 minutes, didn't change any coding etc...

It’s a main battery change that requires the vehicles Battery Management System to be told you have put in a new battery. The small battery can just be swapped over.
When the small battery fails, the normal symptom is the Eco stop start warning light, where as when the main battery gets too low to stop start to work you don’t get any specific indication (of course it will give spurious other warnings when it gets every low. There can be other causes of that Eco warning light so good idea to do a voltage check on the small battery first. Mine was well below 12v so I new it was shot, and my CTEK charger couldn’t revive it.
The small battery is in the box on the opposite side to you main battery (it’s on the drivers side) . The small battery is under £50 although if you get the LR branded one it is nearer £150, and they are exactly the same. Easy swap out. The most difficult but was getting the red terminal cover unclipped. No resets and no lost info, code entry or anything else afterwards.
A few forum posts on here about doing it. Come back if you get stuck.
Cheers Gary

Incorrect. The BMS has reset procedures for both batteries My D3 Build Thread

Had the same on my 2015 last year. Replaced both batteries and warning light went away, but stop start still didn’t work. But LR then told the ecu it had new batteries at its service shortly after and it’s been working perfectly ever since.
