tailgate not opening with switch
My tailgate switch was behaving intermittently and has now given up the fight
I cant open the tailgate (top) using the handle switch. I can open it using either the two buttons on the dash console or by using the remote which I programmed the LR button to open the tailgate
So at least I can get in and out. I am just terrified of locking my keys in the car by using the remote to open a locked car via the tailgate and accidentally having the keys left in the trunk and shutting the tailgate. I only have one key for the car
So today I snipped off the switch and its pretty corroded inside. However, using a resistance reading on my multimeter I can see the switch is 'working'
So I guess I have two questions:
1) anyone know the part # for a new switch?
2) if it's NOT the switch, am I in a world of pain hunting out (and removing body panels) trying to source the failure?

I had the same problem with mine, i replaced the switch with a Ford Focus one (use the search function theres a thread with the part number on here somewhere) but mine was still intermitant and had to replace the actuator.
It will be a lot easier to repair before it totally fails, mine completley failed with my dogs in the boot and i have a full height dog guard fitted which made it fun.Andrew

thanks, I was hoping not to have to replace the actuator, given that it works perfectly fine with the remote or the dash buttons, but oh well

When my switch was working if you pressed it once you could hear a good clunk as the actuator works, if you press it again it didnt clunk so loud and on the third attempt it was even quieter if i used the front switches it would give a good clunk all the time until it failed. I bought a second hand actuator and have had no problems since.Andrew
