white smoke and misfire
hi
another headache about to show its ugly head.
the last 4 cold starts ive had a nisfire and white smoke -unburnt fuel .
it doesn't last long but long enough to fill street
if I tickle the throttle it misfires just about 1500rpm until the smoke stops.
the rest of the day the car is perfect,no issues and full power.
my thoughts are a dribbling injector when left stood ,hence flooding the cylinder and causing the smoke and misfire.
I haven't code read it yet but wonderd if you fellas had any ideas too.
mileage is 103k.so would not be supprised if it is an injector issue
thanks

Sounds like an injector issue to me.
Ideally get your codes read and have a look at some live values - once up to temperature - to see which one(s) are at fault.
If a diagnostic session proves inconclusive (unlikely, given the diagnostic tools available), consider getting having a leak off test done by a local diesel injection specialist.
Be aware that once you start changing injectors, you can often end up changing them all (over a period of time).

I suspect failed glowplugs will contribute to the problem but not necessarily cause a misfire and white smoke.
I'm not sure how cold it is up in Huddersfield at the moment, but it's not been cold enough in Hampshire for failed glow plugs to come into play yet. I'm at least 3 down.

I've got the same fault. I've not got a misfire as such though just lumpy idle and White smoke until it warms then all Is good. Robbie advised me that it could be an oil temp sensor issue. Maybe worth a look at your live data ?Jarrod

thanks all so far.
its not been cold yet by no means.
it starts instantly no churning over as I would imagine with knackerd heater plugs ,
will have to get it checked out properly.
sounds like I'm gonna be on phone to warranty direct yet again lol

White smoke = water, blue smoke = oil and black smoke = fuel so I'm not so sure it's injector/s.

I have exactly the same issue, starts instantly, slight misfire and white/grey smoke for a second or two and then everything fine, mine should be with the garage on Thursday, so when I hear anything i will post back, he stabbed a guess at a sticking EGR valve.
I am pretty sure it isn't a glow plug issue as it starts brilliantly, but I did suspect an injector issue myself.

Not as simple as that, white smoke is quite common when injectors start to go down.

Try a good dose of 2 stroke oil or Wynns injector cleaner in the fuel for what it costs. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

And there's never any harm in replacing the fuel filter.

When I worked at a Vauxhall main dealer a while back we used to fit a new fuel filter and then fill the filter up with forte diesel treatment so it would pretty much go through neat. Forte told us to do that by the way. You'd be amazed how much it would help out. I haven't got around to doing mine yet, I bought a new filter. Just haven't fitted it. LolJarrod

Steve
I am not sure if the Euro 4 engines are more sensitive to glow plug issues than the Euro 3 engines, I have seen a lot of posts on here saying that their car starts down to around -2 degrees with multiple failed glow plugs and I am sure that is their experience but they all appear to be driving Euro 3 engined cars. Last winter my Euro 4 car (07 reg 08 model year) with 2 failed glow plugs was very reluctant to start below about 5 degrees and misfired for a minute or two after it did, I managed to limp it through to the warmer weather by repeatedly cycling the ignition on and off again before the first start of the day. During the summer I changed all 6 glow plugs and since then, as long as I wait for the glow plug light to go out, it starts first time every time without any misfiring, I still occasionally get a bit of blue smoke for a second but I am putting that down to 160,000 mile old injectors.
So as the OP's car is 2008 registered personally I would not be too quick to rule out the glow plugs, I know they can be a pain to change, I was lucky I got all 6 of mine out without any breaking but they are a lot cheaper to buy than injectors.
