MY05 D3 wheel arch, rear bumper sill rust work
Finally started my D3 rust check around sills, rear bumper and wheel arches.
Managed to remove the offside plastic trim with only breaking a few connectors
Quite surprising the rust isn't as bad as i thought, mostly surface and a few flaking areas

Just jet washed everything, will remove orher side this week, then start on rear bumper.
Plan is then wash everything, remove and treat rust, then paint over worh some kind of rust stopper paint (any suggestions?)
In no rush as want to do it properly Iggy/Ieuan

A lot of talk around this forum about Dinitrol being good.
I fancy removing the bumper covers and doing this.
Good luck "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

Plus 1 ref the Dinitrol
Used 1 x litre cans for the inside of the chassis and outside, underneath the body then aerosols for the wheel arches , removed liners
Plenty of drain holes in the chassis so could see it coming out as being injected
Worked out a lot cheaper buying the 1 x litre cans vs all aerosols
Highly recommend gloves and eye protection, along with a cheap throwaway plastic sheet to drive the disco onto
4 x plastic ramps and axle stands, set suspension into off road height and pulled fuse F26
When I put the fuse back in the suspension dropped to virtually its bump stops
Hope that helps

Hi buddy
Before I forget , using one of these triggers really helped when using just the cans
Hope it goes well mate, even after 3 x years when I done mine there isn’t a single piece that’s peeling and it really does stick

That doesn’t look too bad Iggy
There is a guide on the dinitrol site and after preparing the surface there is a rust converter which can be used RC900

I’d like to use a boroscope to look inside the sills. I reckon most of the problem here is caused by the plastic covers holding dirt and moisture on the outside of the sill, so it should be clean new metal inside the sill.
I’d wire brush it off, neutralise it with Kurust or similar, hammerite it, then Dintrol.

Good tip told to me some years ago that does work as I have used it many times, is once you have treated the rust/painted over the top, get some grease just standard chassis grease and slather it on the steelwork before replacing the plastic bits.

Not had side steps fitted, one side completely off now, too hot to work on it tonight, but I'm more interested in taking my time and doing properly, it's not as if i have anywhere to go Iggy/Ieuan
