Rust advisory
A friend phoned me last evening to ask about buying a Disco 3/4. I told him what to look for and how to check the MOT with the DVLA. He came back to me saying that this D4 had a MOT advisory for rust at the rear.............. That really surprised me.
The car was a 10 plate D4, HSE, with 65K on the clock.
He never got as far as the price, it was currently for sale inland, but could it have lived on the coast ?1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

That surprises me. Rust on brake pipes maybe ? Rust on the chassis / bodywork is unusual I'd have said.

can be a lot of issues if the car was used to launch stuff and has never had the sill covers off for a clean, they tend to trap crud and if that's filled with salt water it can be a real nightmare based on pictures on here and FB. For the nature of the vehicle you really think that LR would be a bit more proactive about some of their anti corrosion strategies...Must stop buying shiny toys....

Last year I had an advosory for 'rust on some components'
Given that the car has done almost 240k miles and is usually parked within 20 metres of the sea I didn't think that was too bad!Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Not quite if you remember - I didn't do the underside of the chassis, just the top and sides whilst the body was offCurrently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Some MoT garages seem to think a tiny bit of surface rust is worth mentioning as an advisory.
Seems to vary a lot, so I'd see what the 'damage' is before writing it off.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

I'm with @Highlands on this, 'rust' can cover a pretty wide range depending on who's doing the test.

A lot is down to modern cars are so good, that it looks bad for the tester/garage if everything has a clean first time pass with no advisories.
in the middle of treating my 2010 D4. Chassis is grand, bit of surface rust particularly around the welds but under body is all rusted. All surface at this stage but still, significant coverage.
