EGR cables
Hi, I have noticed a clicking/rattle for several minutes after startup on my 54 plate manual diesel. I also notice a "breathy" lack of power on itital pull away.
It looks like both egr have been blanked but the cable plugs are still disconnected.
Does anyone know if my issues are related to the egr and if the plugs should be unplugged?
Thanks

You could unplug them and see if the noise stops?
A code will be logged, but no warning light so no worries.

Lack of power on initial pull away sounds normal

The plugs are already unplugged, I didn't know if they should be in.
What about the noise, that can't be normal.

The EGR's will be dead if the plugs are disconnected, so the sound will not be from there.
The cam chains rattle on start up for about 3-5 seconds depending on when the engine was last run. It might be this you are hearing as the chain tensioner awaits its life blood from the oil pump!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Come to think of it I had a D3 in a few months back with a strange clicking sound.
It turned out to be this, and this belt was fitted by the customer 18 months ago!
As the saying goes, buy cheap, buy twice!!

So these are the pics of blanked egr, shows blank plate and the cable that's unplugged but you can see a male connector that looks like where the female goes.
You can also see one of the cables appears to be cut on the female plug.

I would forget the wirng at the minute, the green bit may in fact be the end of the seal blank, ie an unsued port, and not a broken wire?
When you next start it from cold, get a large screwdriver place it on varous parts (avoid belt and pulleys!) of the engine with the handle end to you ear and try to determine where the noise is coming from.
You will hear lots of what appear to be alarming noises, rustling etc, do not worry about them, you are after the noise you can hear.
Drives side camchain is at the rear of the rocker cover, passenger side is at the front.
Are the fan belt tensioner and idler pulleys all running in line with each other?
Is the shiny part of pulleys where the belt runs wider than the width of the belt itself?

If EGRs are blanked, the cables should be unplugged. If not, there's a risk of intermittent engine system failure popping up. Fault code will point to mass airflow problem, but it's apparently due to EGR cables being plugged in on a blanked EGR system. I have been down that road recently.

Have you checked the belt tensioner etc for play - bearings often break down on them and can be only located by the worn part of the remainder !Must stop buying shiny toys....

Will take a look when I fit new battery.
Having another look, I don't think the egrs have been removed!
Seem to have a blank plate but the main unit is still there just unplugged.
