I’m sorry you thought that way, on both counts.
FYI- The order Lagomorpha consists of two families, Leporidae and Ochotonidae.

Rodents aren’t a family they are an order so Lagomorph is the equivalent order you are trying to say apples are pears but your apology is accepted. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I understand the difference between the order Rodentia and order Lagomorpha and you’re correct that rabbits belong in the later.
My attempt at making a humorous pedantic point, was that the order Lagomorpha is divided into two families, rabbits belonging to the Leporidae family.
I did have to look up the spelling though. It’s been decades since I’d written that word. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

You boys have got me looking stuff up - which I love doing - and interestingly, we're more closely related (in terms of taxonomic classification and still only distantly so) to rats and rabbits than we are dogs, horses and whales.
Another of these funny relationship things, that I found out a few years ago, is with game birds. The true partridges (the Grey (Perdix perdix) and two others) are reasonably closely related to the pheasants. The red legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) (and the rest of the so-called partridges) isn't related to the Grey in any reasonable way - it's more closely related to the peacock, strangely.
Funny old thing, life. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

me ... what did I start?
There was me thinking the interesting part was that someone just down the road from me had a pair of capybara, which appear to be worth about £1000 apiece, according to Google.
The fact they have 2 fewer incisors than the rabbits in the contrived opening post is immaterial. And according to wikipedia, until some point in the 20th century they WERE all clumped under the rodent umbrella ... rabbits, hares, rats the lot.
Lighten up guys. .

But I’m still 100% right and it just goes to prove what is happening on here, you make a comment and then someone comes along and shows you how clever they are by correcting you even when they are wrong. I’ve even had PMs showing that people are fed up.
Quote: Pelyma,
You were right. Biological taxonomy is broken down into 9 hierarchical levels - the first being LIFE and the last being SPECIES. 6th down the list is ORDER and beneath that FAMILY.
Rodentia and Lagomorpha are orders. Leporidae is a family within the order Lagomorpha.
At least you were comparing apples with apples
I expect LT would have shifted the argument to suggest that Darwin had broken the self-isolation rules by going fly fishing.Quote:
