If you can find an ok cheap set, then maybe just take them to a local welder and see if he can reinforce them. My father gave me a set from his old rallying days (mk 2 escorts - bit of a weight difference) and I took them to an Indy welder, who coincidentally does all the welding on local farmers defenders, and he reinforced them for £30.
They weigh a ton now but I definitely feel safer underneath them than I wouldve as they were.
That's the biggest thing I've noticed since getting the D3, they are a seriously heavy vehicle compared to working on anything else I ever have, can't take any chances.

I just did my first bit of maintenance - oil, filter, fuel filter etc at the weekend, before I'd read this today. Considered using the ramps I have but opted for some sleeper offcuts in the end. Thought I was being sensible since I didn't know the strength of the ramps (old). It's also fairly new sleepers and been kept in the garage dry. Glad it's not just me.
I didn't bother with the slope for the sleepers - it's an offroader!!!! 2007 Discovery 3 HSE Lugano Teal
