Council Tax 2020/21
Well my Council is shoving up their Council Tax by 4.84%.
Apparently 1.84% of it is to help fill in potholes. Okay if they carry out their promise apart from the fact we’re paying for all the camper vans driving round the place chewing the road up.
As for the rest of the increase, they say its to prevent redundancies. A badge the Council wear with pride despite the fact that I know quite a few council employees that say they are over staffed and they’ve been told informally to reduce the amount of work they do so it doesn’t show the non workers up.

The trouble with that is the Councillors up here in the Highlands, is most of them are independents, seem to have a job for life once elected.
They’ve literally got to murder someone to get kicked out or pass away and even then. I don’t know if it’s people are frightened to change or better the Devil you know sort of attitude. Been that way for donkeys years.

Think perhaps the PFI interest payments that we are lumbered with might also be affecting charges

Meanwhile, in England...
Quote:
Households in England face further council tax rises from April, according to research.
The County Councils Network said the majority of councils that run social care services would be raising council tax by the full amount allowed - 3.99%.
But it said councils faced a funding shortfall of £19bn over the next five years

Bit of confusion, I was agreeing with you Sea Raider. It was DM remark that the SNP held CT rises that was old news.
I suppose the point I was making is that most Councils are terribly inefficient and rather than bite the bullet and make redundancies, they seem keen to keep the jobs. Whilst that laudable, it’s also particularly expensive.

The NHS is another. They contract so called business Consultants at a particularly extortionate rate, pay their Chief Executives more than the Prime Minister - generally rather than Boris oriented remark.
And there’s waste, poor performance etc ...... just look at their strategy for reducing waiting list times for operations. Put it out to the private sector, where many of the NHS employees do weekend work. I don’t blame them, they are looking out for themselves, but it’s tres expensive.
The individuals can’t work within their own Health Board, so get paid travel, hotels, meals plus an eye watering pay to do what they do on a daily basis in the NHS and the private firms make a good profit out of it too. How can that be right?
