| Do fixed tow bars interfere with parking sensors? |
|
Hi folks,
Am currently looking to get a tow bar for a bike rack. As removable bars are getting rarer on here do fixed options obscure or interfere with the parking sensors?
I will never tow as not old enough 😂
Recommendations welcome please!

No they don’t. I also have a fixed tow bar available for sale if you’re interested. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

never had a problem with it. When you put something on the towbar then that depends upon whether you have a had the electrics updated and configured so that the car knows that you have towing electrics. If you have, then plugging a connector in will disable the rear parking sensors. If not, they will sound continuously when something (trailer or bike rack) is obstructing the sensor.

Thanks very much for that gents, will need to get power to the registration plate bar on the rack so the info on towing electrics is very useful cheers, I’ll see if I’ve got it enabled!

I don't think you really need to "enable" tow electrics on a 2005.
Anyway, it all comes down to indicators plugged into the trailer socket.
So if you want the parking sensors to continue to work, (which it sounds like you do), don't connect anything to the towbar indicators pins. (or if you want indicators, try LED ones)
If you do want the sensors to shut down, either use the dash button (at every startup) or wire indicator bulbs to the trailer connector.
If you want a number plate light connect it to
pin 3 -
pin 7 +

My Jan 2005 D3 shut down to limp home mode then my Dealer fitted a 13 pin Socket without " enabling" the vehicle. Mine was supplied with no tow socket , as 2x7 pin was the OE factory fitting and I wanted 13 pin. It was the first they had fitted.

Resurrecting an old thread rather than starting afresh.
My rear parking sensors have been throwing fault codes for as long as I've had the car. GAP IID Tool was showing that the outer two sensors were faulty. Now that I've replaced these two, I can now see that the inner two are "seeing" my tow bar - both inner sensors showing a distance on the GAP Tool of about 0.1m, while the outer two give correct distances for objects placed in their path.
Is there any way to disable the inner two sensors, or fool them into logging the max 2.5m that the outer ones log when nothing is behind? Previously:

I guess you will have to move them to the outside. (But not too close to the others radar?)
Or somehow point them away from the towbar and glue them

Pete, thanks. I guess that even if I was able to trick the two inner ones into giving a false message back to the module, it would leave me with a blind-spot, and I know from experience (  ) that these things have to be ignored if they are not 100% trustworthy! Previously:
