The phrase is “waking the dragon”.
I am so dead when she reads that.

We have a cunning plan. We are booked on the direct flight from Perth to LHR 2 days before our visa runs out. If that flight is cancelled we’ll pretty much straight away be illegal aliens so hopefully they’ll do us the favour of deporting us. Business class of course.
TBS our only concern is if the authorities shut down long haul internal flights, that would be a big problem. I’m not sure Thrifty Sydney would like a phone call saying “you know that car we’re renting from you? It’s now in Perth”.
Have they got your credit card details. " no I'm sure those dents weren't there when I dropped the car off"

And the best made plans are ripped up.
Our successfully getting back home, without going via Singapore, Dubai, Tokyo, Taiwan or Hong Kong, depends on getting to Western Aus, and the WA Premier is saying he’s not closing the WA borders. Yet. Queue time to get to WA then go from there. Not nice phoning hotels to cancel, these are small businesses and suffering.
“As more countries close their borders or introduce travel restrictions, overseas travel is becoming more complex and difficult. You may not be able to return to Australia when you had planned to. Consider whether you have access to health care and support systems if you get sick while overseas. If you decide to return to Australia, do so as soon as possible. Commercial options may become less available.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also told those who choose to stay overseas that there might not be any consular assistance available.

We’ve hiked everything forward, booked on a flight to Perth tomorrow then out directly to LHR, hopefully, on 24th. Qantas is shutting down at the end of the month. https://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/media-re...work-cuts/ , SWMBO saw that only 12 minutes after it went out so it was a case of jump straight away and pull our flight to London forwards. Now it’s on ABC I doubt there are any seats left.
If that doesn’t work we’ll be staying put, prob in WA.
As I type Tassie is putting 14 days quarantine on all peeps arriving from midnight tomorrow. If WA does that for midnight today we are b red, so we will be staying this side of the country. How long do we have to stay to get Aussie passports?

As we have both been out of useful employment for over a couple of decades I doubt we’d have enough points. “Island living” sounds nice but somehow I don’t think you meant Hamilton Island.

I know this is only Australia related, Aus is now only allowing Aussies & residents back in from tomorrow night. We’re somewhere between confident and hopeful that we’ll get out. Plans are afoot if we have to stay.
