Roof rack spare wheel carrier
Managed to snap up a prospeed roof rack from a fellow member now looking at adding some accessories, anyone used or know of a suitable spare wheel carrier that will fit and provide good security? I’ve seen prospeeds but I’m not sure I like it if that makes sense! I’m wondering if a defender rear door set up with a cover is possible?

The bar under the crossbars, there are blocks of aluminium inside each crossbar so the Allen bolts aren't actually screwed into the crossbars as such, drilled & tapped M6, some nylon washers between the crossbars & bracket.
Have done over 3,000 km on corrugated roads with this setup. I put a pin through the bottom of the bolt for safety so it can't unscrew. I lock the wheel on with a heavy bike wire lock, but a battery angle grinder would cut through it. Only so much one can do!
The drilled aluminium is 5083 alloy 12mm thick 50mm wide, covered with 3 x 50mm anodised aluminium.

I like it hadn’t considered anything like that, storage inside the wheel is awesome

Glad to provide some ideas. I couldn't find anything suitable for my situation, mostly a weight issue, but fitting everything on the roof was necessary as we have less room in the car compared to you guys! Still have far too much when fully loaded, but we get the fuel off the roof ASAP & put the solar panels in the car for rough roads.
There were some some modifications to the aluminium plate (4mm 5083 alloy) inside the wheel as it was bolted down differently. One usually gets it right by the third go!
I needed as much fuel as possible & this provided another 2 x 5L, so 50L all up. Rims are 18" but now have larger 255/60R18 tyres.
The cradle was bent up out of mostly 3 x 40mm anodised flat bar bent by hand or in a vise or over the edge or a table, all drilled & tapped & Nyloc nuts. 3 x 20mm 316 stainless in roof crossbars, tapped for bolts.
These are 2 x 2 x 10L cradles, but the same principle as the 2 x 5L.
I did have a roof platform 20kg. Crossbars from another manufacturer would allow 100kg, so I use 4 LR crossbars to spread the load, net saving 16.4kg.Visitor - Freelander owner

Loving the kit looks like its definitely the business for your neck of the woods. Not really loads of miles of corrugations back in old Blighty so Prospeeds version more that adequate for our tarmac and a little green laning and more besides.

Likewise no issues with the Prospeed carrier, have done a fair few miles on & off tarmac with it in situ, can’t see it with the wheel up there either way 🤷♂️
