Intermittent Suspension Fault - Amber and occasionally Red

I know there are number of threads on here about this, but many seem to be different and have different faults and fixes.

So, shortly after my D4 was in for a service and first MoT (and just after the warranty had expired!) I started to intermittently get the Amber suspension fault warning, with the lights going out on the suspension controls with inability to change height mode.

This has been going on now for about 6 months but it is happening more increasingly with more of the Red warning coming on occasionally also (says drive at max 30 miles an hour but doesn't restrict speed like the full on limp mode, normally the red will come on for a short while but sometimes go back and forth with the amber).

Normally power cycling clears the warning (but sometimes have to do this multiple times). Sometimes the car will just power up and drive a short journey without the light coming on at all.

After power cycling I can (normally - sometimes it trigers the fault) adjust the hieght to low or high and back agaim with the suspension going up or down accordingly, I also find if I can do this, then the fault tends not to come on at all for the journey.

I have taken the car to a local landrover specialist indy - they checked the codes, did a recalibration (which seemed to help for a short while when we test drove - but the fault came on again when we tried the rise height button) - however, there seemed to be a lot of related fault codes coming up and I didn't get a good look at them.

They have quoted me £650 (ex VAT) plus a couple of hours labour for a new compressor, however, after reading around on here and eslewhere there could be a number of other things that are casuing the same issue (and are potentially much cheaper to fix!) - i.e. Crack in the dryer cap, loose wiring, loose/leaking connection tubes, faulty relay, faulty hieght sensor etc.

So does my specific scenario sugested a particular fault over another?

If I can get the fault codes checked again, which particular ones should I be looking out for that perhaps suggest one of other fixes instead of replacing the whole compressor?

You can look at the cap yourself if you want to check. You can also listen and hear the compressor working, or apply 12V to the plug if you are unsure. I did this when I started having suspension issues. Just take the cover off, the compressor is located just in front of the rear nearside wheel. My codes turned out to be the rear valve block.

I've also just had a red light on the suspension and then turning off the ignition and restarting it has gone away.

Is there a path to follow to diagnose this? I know if I take it to a mechanic they'll say new compressor but it seems there are lots of other possibilities that are so much cheaper.

Anyone?

Get the codes read. That's the best starting point.

How did this turn out for you?
I am looking at a used D3 HSE and during a test drive today the exact same issue with the amber suspension warning coming on then occasionally the red warning- max speed 30mph. Other than this the car is in great condition but I understand that air suspension issues can be pretty severe and costly. I’ve asked the dealership to look at it but if it’s a case of a (relatively) simple fix I can get it sorted independently.

I've had suspension problems recently and amongst other things I carried out

a steering angle sensor calibration

and also

recalibrated the suspension

since then I've not had any of the 30mph warnings or intermittent lights

for me it was sorted by replacing a height sensor...

then spending a week with the nightmare scenario of 30mph etc before finally convincing my mechanic that the system needed calibrating (after reading loads of posts on this forum)

once calibrated no more problems and so far so good.

No idea - I did it myself using my GAP IID diagnostic tool

whicg if you buy a Discovery is a must have IMO

Recalibration with IID takes about 5 mins

Anyone know this fault code ?

Hi all,
Recently had my Disco 4 back after it stood for 3 x months and then had an engine rebuild - driving home amber warning (suspension fault) took it back and although it was nothing to do with the rebuild they tried to sort - came down to a faulty NSF sensor, but as they hadn't got one I brought the car home and booked it in with my local guy.
He had to get the part ordered and whilst waiting the suspension warning has continued, occasionally changing to a Red 30mph warning, on these occasions it seems to be becasue the height is too high.
Had the sensor changed this morning - his diagnostic computer confirms fault on NSF sensor and that it is now cleared - however still showing 'Suspension Fault'
It is coing up with Fault Code U2007-67 and saying Valve(S) Circuit Signa Incorrect after Event
Anyone know what this is ?
He can't find the code via Google and his Technical Support is not available until the 6th !
It is all a mystery to me

Thought an update was in order - before we could get this checked I had a total suspension failure - no warning just straight down to the bump stops - limped 4 miles home - local garage spent an hour and a half trying to sort - cleared out compressor housing (maybe a valve got stuck open), checked compressor, also checked main electrical connections on NSR - Nothing worked - left overnight and was going to have to get it trailered to LR dealer, started it to get it out of workshop next morning and it went straight back to normal height and all height selections working !
Ran for the next week with intermittent 'Suspension Fault' warnings and the occasional Red 'Suspension Fault Max speed 30mph'
Into local LR specialist - checked out codes and diagnosed a faulty connector block behind NSF Headlight (full of water) - sorted and immediately all OK
However am now getting yellow 'Only Normal Height Available' messages - weird thing is they aren't consistent - drove Daventry to Stansted message on - parked 3hrs - drove back all OK and this has been repeated at random times since, somtimes ok on outward leg and faulty on return, or vice versa.
Its going to have to go back to LR specialist but has anyone else had this random ok / not ok issue ?
Suspension height and levelling is all ok - just seems that sometimes it decides I can't lower or raise beyond Normal - just to be awkward today it has been perfect - Baffled !
