[For Sale] 54 plate Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 16V JTD Sportwagon Veloce

Hello all

Now that I have my D4 I need to sell the 54 plate Alfa Romeo 156 1.9JTD Sportwagon I purchased as a temporary hack whilst I was between Discos.

It’s been on EBAY but didn’t sell despite putting it up for a lot less than I paid for it.

I’m going to put it back up on EBAY a lot cheaper again, but as I need to move it on I thought I’d offer it on here for a few days at what I will start the bidding at on EABY.

I purchased it in July and it was used it as daily transport until just before Xmas.

I fell in love with it really, as it goes well and handles sweetly, but have had to admit that I don’t have space for it unless I sell another one of my toys.
I will however have a 3.2V6 4WD one one day, as my live won't be complete until I do.

It’s a 2004, 156 1.9 16V JTD Sportwagon Veloce in Blue with Grey leather interior.
It was well ahead of its time having a 6 speed manual box and semi-active rear suspension.
I’ve put @6K miles on it in @ 5 months, using it to commute daily to work, a couple of trips to the NEC from our home on the South coast, a few trips to see our son in the Cotswolds, and even a few trips to the dump.
It’s now showing nearly 111K miles.
It has the GM 1.9TD engine as used in the Vectra etc so is pretty bulletproof in that respect and parts are cheap.

At purchase it had been sat around for a few months and the MIL light was on. In the first 4 weeks every item I fixed to put it out was proceeded by another different fault, but apart from one issue it’s been fine ever since despite it being used daily.

Firstly it had Cooling fan signal issues, which I eventually traced to a broken wire from the ECU to the Relays, so I ran a separate wire tapped in at each end.

Then the light came back on after another week and my code reader pointed to the EGR valve. After a strip down and clean that’s been fine ever since too.

There is one issue left that puts the MIL light on, it’s happened 3 times in the last 5 months, but plugging my code reader in and clearing the code sorts it out.
If you are cruising in 6th gear at low revs, and bury your foot quickly right to the floor the light comes on, but it’s still driveable just a bit down on power, not in Limp mode though.

It hasn’t come on in any other situation, and I was going to investigate more but haven’t got around to it. As you can imagine that specific situation just doesn’t happen unless you do it on purpose.
The code relates to - Turbo/Supercharger Boost Control Circuit High, P0238

I’ve just put two budget front tyres on the front, the rears will need changing soon but should pass the MOT due at the end of January.

There is a big folder of service history, receipts etc from the previous owner including the Cambelt change and new clutch, both within the last 15K miles.

I’ve crawled underneath it and can’t find any serious corrosion, just surface rust.

I’d describe it as an Honest car, that isn’t perfect, but with some love and care will be great again.

Bad bits
The paragraph above about the Engine Management Light.
MOT due 31st January.
It needs another service now.
Drivers seat vertical Bolster worn through over a very small area – rest of interior is very good indeed.
Previous owner ran over something on the near side, which split the front splitter and damaged the paint, broke a small piece away from the rear of the side skirt, and damaged the paint on the rear wheelarch, which has been covered with the correct colour paint.

Car is in South Hampshire.

I’ve not had a chance to clean it for the images.

The first image is from the add when I purchased it.
Image 2 is shortly after.
The rest of the images show it how it is now, including the damage mentioned above that it had when I purchased it.

I paid £1500 for it in July, I’ve had great fun with it, and it’s not let me down, but I do now realise I paid too much for it in my ignorance when I saw that fantastic looking front end, so I’m offering it on here for £750.

I should add that the rear seats go completely flat and the roller blind load cover stores in a gap under the bolster creating a really quite large load space.

Thanks Nigel.

It is a Steal, but I need it gone, and of course the MOT is due.

I just don't have the time to spend getting it up to sctrach before selling it.

As you can tell from my forum name, I have owned Alfa and the forum name came from my time on their forums. The last one was a black 2002 2.4JTD version I had from new, so a slightly different front end to yours. But my god what a car and I still see it around locally today, looking almost as good as the day I bought it.

Out of interest, what do you reckon you get to the gallon from it? Whistle

I didn't look at it in detail but I'd guess @40mpg.
Silly really as it has a trip computer that shows mpg but I always had it on distance.

I do know that my weekly fuel bill was between 1/2 and 1/3 of what I was putting in the D3, and I've had a bit of a shock now I'm using the D4 Shocked

If I had the room and didn't have to leave it out in the road, I'd would keep it and use it to commute instead of using the D4 each day, and if I don't sell it soon I may MOT it and do just that.
