Petrol in my SDV6. Help!
Help!
No prizes in guessing that I put petrol in my SDV6. I'll take all the flack now.........
20 litres to be precise. That was 5 days ago and despite not wanting to initially start on Monday and Tuesday, starting is now better and it seems to be running OK, albeit it sounds like it is pinking when I put my foot down.
I've since put a full tank of high-end diesel in.
What's the best course of action now please? Any and all (not too expensive) options gratefully accepted.
Did you pump out all the diesel/petrol mixture before refilling the car with diesel, change the fuel filter etc, and broadly follow this course of action ?

Oh dear. Should have not even turned the key when you realised. Pinking sounds like the injectors are leaking. I wouldn’t drive or you risk a burned piston or worse.
Someone will correct me but I seem to remember that when LR sort out a misfulled car they fit the following replacements:-
Fuel tank
HPFP
LPFP
Fuel lines & filter
and, I believe
Injectors & associated pipework
That may be overkill, but when I misfuelled my D3 I called LR Assist who said don't switch on the ignition, push the car away from the pump.
RAC then came & drained & flushed the tank, added mysterious fluids, changed fuel filter etc.. and it was OK thereafter. I owned it for another 30k miles without problems, but I was lucky.

Where I used to work lots of misfueled council vehicles came in for repair, std procedure was drain and remove tank for steam cleaning, injs and pump off to diesel shop for checking and clean/blow out all pipework.
The van mech ran an L series freelander and that is what it ran on for years!

Check your insurance for wrong fuel, you might be covered It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've had this on vans over the years. I Just drain the tank, put a gallon in, run it through until almost empty again and then fill the tank. worked every time for me.
The other way around is a bigger problem.Disco 4 2012

This is what happened to a piston when £20 worth of petrol was put into a T/SDV6...

It's an easy enough job to take the injectors out and have them tested. While the injectors are out, you can use a boroscope to have a look at the top of the pistons to check for signs of heat damage.
Any decent garage should be able to do this for around a few hundred quid.Joe

I'm pretty sure most people do not realise that the diesel (oil) is both a lubricant and a coolant for the pumps and mechanicals of the systems as a whole.

I, for one, would like to know how things are going - fingers crossed.
