New to me Discovery4
Hi everyone
I have just treated myself to a lovely Disco4 and wanted to say hello to the forum as no doubt I will have a few questions about ownership and issues as time goes on.
We have only had it a few weeks and can’t get over how nice it is to drive, it feels like new despite the 90k on the clock.
There are a few issues with it which will hopefully get sorted easily. The glass part of the boot only opens using the key fob and the boot light doesn’t work. Only other thing I’ve noticed is blueish smoke on start up.
Looking forward to many years happy ownership, keeping fingers crossed obviously.
Hope you like the photos of the Disco and my Mountain Bike from Forest of Dean last week.

Hi Steve and as Rog said - welcome to the madhouse
The glass part of the boot is the upper tailgate. If you do a search on here there are lots of posts about this and solutions.
You might also want to check the condition of the car underneath the side steps, again there are lots of posts on here about steps being a great place for crud to collect and rust to breed Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Hello, and as others have said, welcome to the D4 madhouse! It’s a disease that’s incurable!
Re the blue smoke on start up, how old is the car? The early ones that were Euro 4 (without DPF) seemed to do that, my MY2010 certainly did. Oddly it was worse when the temperature outside was c.5-10 degrees. When it was warmer or colder than that it wasn’t as bad.
Enjoy the car, your pockets won’t!

Symptoms of blue smoke would possibly indicate it hasn’t had the secondary turbo drain pipe mod done.
Easy enough fix and not to hard on the wallet - about £250 at an independent.
I used to have a MY10 from new - mod solved it virtually overnight. Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

Hi All
Thanks for the reply’s.
It has been a bit chilly recently So maybe that’s why it’s smokey, will keep an eye on it and oil level and see how it goes.
I hadn’t thought to check the steps but now you’ve mentioned it I will check them, can’t say I like them as I always think they will mess up my jeans. Now they are on I don’t think they can be removed easily and wife likes them so guess they will be hear to stay.
I will have a look through the forum about upper tailgate, I can hear/feel movement on the switch but guessing the actuator isn’t playing.
Cheers
Steve

Interesting. The mod cured the cloud of smoke on the first hard acceleration, but had no effect on the smoke on start up. It was never a huge amount, but enough to be noticed.
It never used a drop of oil in the six years we had it.
