Fuel Burning Heater and Timed Climate

Good afternoon,

My 2016 Discovery Landmark was supplied with factory fit fuel burning heater (as I believe all Discovery 4’s are) and activated Timed Climate, where you can set the heating to activate at a desired time.

I activated the Times Climate today (outside temperature was c.3C) and the unit started working as it should. The Webasto heater got hot etc., etc. However, the inside temperature of the car even after 15-20 minutes was only slightly warmer than outside. Checking under the bonnet, hence knowing that the Webasto unit was working properly, I was surprised to see that there was no circulation pump fitted (to circulate the hot water) as I understand there should be with the factory activated/fitted Timed Climate.

Perhaps you could clarify please?

Although you have a FBH fitted as all TDV6 have and you have got timed climate enabled you have not got factory remote climate, there does seem to be a big difference in the interior temperature with factory fitted remote climate and aftermarket remote climate, I understand there is an expensive factory aftermarket kit available that involves extra pipe work to give the car interior priority.
I am lucky to have factory fitted remote and can confirm it is very good, I opened the tailgate yesterday morning after having it on for 15 minutes and the heat hit me Thumbs Up

If that’s the case, and I have no reason to doubt you, having timed climate is pretty pointless then? I have the LR remote, but that’s been added later. Another JLR scam!

Well expensive it don’t need to be as it is a fairly simple construction..

see this schematics

https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/displayim...&pos=0

although in German language, it speaks for itself i presume, Warmetauscher = heat exchanger

although i do not know if the electronic valve in a LR Disco4 is operated bij a pin(s) on the FBH (normaly they are) or with a Webasto or other IPCU...

both the electronic regulated valve (can be found on every scrap yard in even mercedes, or audi, etc. or ebay) and or a webasto IPCU are not that expensive..

the other valve is a simple non-return valve...

some hose cutting needed (simple) BUT on maybe difficult to reach places so a 2 hour job normally
 Best regards
Harold

I had the remote retro fitted. Use it after walking dogs in the cold. Put it on 20 mins the other day whilst I had a pint in the pub. It was red hot inside when I came to get in.

I don’t think I have the pump but don’t see any down side. (In my case any way)

Think there must be something wrong with mine then. Mine is factory fitted and although it does defrost the screen, it’s certainly not “hot” when I get in after 20 mins

Maybe you know, BUT you have to put the aircon/heater unit on MAX temp and low airoutput/blower and blowers on the front screen when you leave the car, the parking heater, just turns on the heater unit on in its “last known position” 😉

What does the water temp gauge say after 30 minutes?- as your heat is going mainly into your engine.
Do the interior fans come on?

I do leave the heater set to MAX, not sure about the blower speed, does that make a difference then? And also the vents, I usually have all open , should it just be the screen?

I put mine on, normally left at 23 oc. fans on feet face screen and fan auto. When i get in the engine temp shows 1/4 way up, when I start the engine it takes a dive for a couple of minuets then comes back up.

Well, 23oc to me is hot. I wouldn't want it much more than that. I consider it to be hot yes.

I think it is irrelevant what the heater controls are set to as when the engine is switched off all vents close ISTR, just remember when the temperature is above 6 degrees the fan blows cold.
If the temperature gauge read 1/4 way up after the remote heater has been on for 20 minutes it is working as it should.

Temperature gauge has hardly moved after 20 mins. Something wrong then?
