Stephen, just a reminder. The old and new nuts are not interchangeable. The thread diameters are the same but the pitch is different. Original nuts are 32mm, later GKN shafts 36mm. Replace like for like.

Fitted a pair of these last Friday, along with drop links, took me 4 hours total Inc cleaning away, look good quality and a damn site cheaper than the timken ones, so I'm happy and my car sounds silent (or quieter, 😁) And couldn't work out which side it was, so did both and it was passenger side had collapsed and drivers side drop link had snapped!

Can the new style nut be re-used?
Side note - I put a new style n/s driveshaft on mine and the bloody 36mm socket does not fit through the centre bore of the alloy wheel!

What is the best technique for torquing up a 36mm new style nut? Wheel off, nuts on threads and torque against a lever? Or is there a 36mm socket that will fit through the centre of the wheels? or something else?

Put in gear ? Or get a friend to hold the brakes on Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes,pads,callipers,flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Just a reminder. The recommended torque for the hub nut has been reduced to 230Nm, in order to increase the life of the bearing.

how can I tell before starting the job if I require old or new style nut ? .
