No Amber Light On Parking Sensors |
|
Hi all,
I took the plunge and bought a disco 3, and so far I am very happy with it. I tested everything I could think of before I bought, I was even under it with a torch. However, I forgot to test the parking sensors.
The button in the cab seems to do ….. well nothing really, no light on it at all.
I’ve tried switching it on whilst in park, drive neutral and reverse but to no avail. I understand these sods are a common thing to break, but everything I have found on the forum has been about the amber light flashing, mine doesn’t even do that! Had anyone else encountered this?
Cheers,
Pit.

5A fuse
Expect lots of irritating noises when fuse fitted then!

Don’t pop the champagne cork just yet, previous owner may have removed fuse due to an actual fault on the parking sensors. But it’s a start at least 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

If orange flashing, and no beeping (when reverse selected)
99% sure the rear speaker has failed.
you can get ones for fords for a fraction of the price
Once again, there are likely to be sensor faults hiding.
If you have a fault code reader, (autel ap200 from £44) will give you an idea how many problems there are with it. (sensors, looms)

So at the moment, when I get in the car and get the ignition on, I hear a long beep (sounds like it is coming from the front) and before I touch anything, the amber light is flashing constantly, even whilst driving.
When I am in reverse and approach a wall, I get no beeping but still that continuous amber light flashing, I don't have a fault reader (yet)
I have read that the wiring behind the rear bumper can be an issue, but at least I have a light, so it's part working in my book Newbie - 2008 D3 HSE 2.7 TDV6 - Stornoway Grey

Rear speaker fault then, if it makes no noise

No. Flashing indicates a fault.

Okay thanks for the clarification, I will test the speaker and if it’s not faulty, I will get the OBD tool and start having a look into it more, I’m assuming a flashing amber light wouldn’t be triggered by a faulty speaker though?
Thanks for all the help! Newbie - 2008 D3 HSE 2.7 TDV6 - Stornoway Grey

I’ve copied the below from the workshop manual, apparently parking sensor “tell you” what wrong the second ones sounds about right with your description?
Diagnostics
The parking aid module has a diagnostic connection via the medium speed CAN to enable faults to be retrieved using T4.
Additionally, an on-board diagnostic routine within the parking aid module constantly monitors the system and alerts the driver to a system fault by emitting a tone from the front or rear sounder, depending on the fault.
If a parking aid system fault has occurred, the parking aid module will relay the occurrence of the fault to the driver in the following ways:
The status LED will flash at a frequency of 2Hz if the system is active and fault is detected in the sensors, sounders, related wiring or the module.
The front sounder will emit an error tone for 3 seconds at a frequency of 1500Hz if a fault is detected with the front sensors or the rear sounder develops a fault.
The rear sounder will emit an error tone for 3 seconds at a frequency of 1500Hz if a fault is detected with the rear sensors, the switch, the LED in the switch or if there is a CAN bus error. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Yes (as above) a faulty speaker will cause the light to flash.
speaker should be 50R
