Strange clunk on direction change |
|
Morning. After changing the front n/s driveshaft I have a strange clunk when I change direction. Usually turning right. First of all I put a d/s from a breaker on. Then an OE aftermarket shaft. Same clunk is there.
During the initial change I destroyed the top ball joint which I replaced.
Any ideas , or is it a case of start changing stuff until it goes?
Thanks

Is the reason you changed the drive shaft because of the clunk. Are you sure the clunk is the drive shaft and not the front uni joint going to the diff. It could also be the other side. Suspension bushes and 'arb' can also give a clunk.
But if you jack both front wheels of the ground you should be able to tell what the clunk is.

I changed the driveshaft as I had a nasty grinding noise from the outer cv joint. The clunk came after. The uni joint is new with the shaft so it shouldn’t be that. I’ll get the front jacked up and have a check. Thanks
