Anyone had the sump of a d4 engine
Decided to have a look at what is causing my oil level fault today. Only to find that landrover in their infinate wisdom have fitted the sensor inside the sump
Has anyone had the sump off? If so what sort of job is it
Thanks in advance

As above. Quite a lengthy procedure, as the sump is essentially the lower crankcaseMy D3 Build Thread

Hmm thanks guys. In that case how accurate is the calculated level on the iid tools oil level reading? I get the calculated level but not the measured level so may just rely on regular checks with the iid if it's reasonably accurate?
Hi, had the same problem with my D4 in April, as other have said not an easy job - indiy did mine after I thought it would be an easy fix to do myself - turned out not to be the case - it took the garage six and a half hours labour to do - amazing for a part that costs only £48.00! Good Luck

Exactly. £48 for sensor and according to dealer 5 hours book time (@£180 an hour!!!)
Only landrover could come up with something so stupid. Did one a few weeks ago on a bmw x5. Drop undertray, drain oil, remove and replace sensor, refill oil and refit undertray. About 1.5 hours in totalPrevious Discos

I need to do both front lower arms soon so that may be the opportunity to get the sump off at the same time ( will be easier to remove the diff etc.)
What type of sealant is used on the sump?
