With all the water falling from the sky I headed down to my mum's and found the road flooded to about 2-3 inches...fair bit of splashing going on...then battery warning light came on and steering felt very stiff...
oooer...after coming out of the water the light went off again and panic over...
meanwhile mum has been up and down the road several times in her Jazz with no problem.
D3 experience in a nutshell...all fur coat and no knickers.
And it costs you big time. Time to sell and buy small? Not according to the kids who love 'the big car'...

Land Rover say that the Discovery is great off road but they dont say if thats running or broken down waiting to be fixed.

Sounds like the auxiliary belt was slipping, is the belt old, or is the tensioner not doing its job? This shouldn’t happen. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

@ adri123: your mum had outstanding taste in cars. My present wheels of choice is a 12 year old Jazz that costs me virtually nothing to run and is shocking reliable. No bongs leading to big bills, no throwing toys out of the parm and, like a faithful old retriever, always happy to be heading out.

My D3 used to do exactly that when going through deep puddles, ‘‘twas the belt slipping. Never got around to investigating further re. cause as I chopped it in for a D4 a couple of months laterNow Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
